Well everyone..my barrel horse is crippled. His stifle was so injured that the vet would not even do surgery. Plus, come to find out he is closer to 20 yrs old then 10 yrs old as I was told. Nope, I don't have papers on him and I can't tell age by looking at teeth, I didn't really care, he was a good horse! He can be ridden but only at a walk. Absolutly on trotting or running. I have been in a bad mood but I made a very hard desion for him. He is going to a friend that wants him to be his yard decoration. He will be loved and cared for untill he dies.
Thank you all that gave me great ideas to rehab him but it just won't for him.
I know this is not a question but I promised that I would update everyone.

Hun.... I'm soo sorry. I know how hard this can be, I've been down your road more than once in my life. Saying goodbye to a friend and partner for whatever reason. I wish you the best in finding a new mount and am VERY happy that your horse has been blessed with a home to look after him and let him retire peacefully!!!!!!!!
If I can do anything please just email me!

I am soooo sorry to hear that!!!
I really had hoped it was minor. That is very unfortunate.
Even worse, is that it is a crappy way to learn the lesson of trusting a seller of a horse. I'm sorry girl!
Well, on the positive side, you are VERY fortunate to have found someone to take him as a pet -thats fantastic!!!
Again, my sympathies. That really just sucks!
Thank you for the update.

sorry to hear about your barrel horse, i just had to put down my barrel horse of 10 years last summer. atleast he is still around and happy. its a hard sport and its hard on them, my mare had arthritis in her front end her last years, but was still lightly ridden and happy. well until she got horner syndrom anyways. took us forever to find out what was wrong with her. she looked like she had had a seizure. anyways good luck. i havent done barrels since she past and by the looks of it never really will again. :(

I am so sorry this happened to you. Please ask someone like a vet to check out the next horse you buy. Good luck and I am glad the horse did not have to be put down.

You are doing the right thing and I hope you find one that is at least 1/2 as good as this one. Sounds like you guys were a great team.

Did you ever get a vet to look at her? If yes call the vet and ask what to do. If no, then just ignore it since it's obvious you don't really care.

And you are doing him right by giving him a place to eat grass and hay every day until he is content.
