Were having a fun day at our barn pretty soon. I want to try and make cool show ribbons that are inexpensive. Im not sure how many games we would do but maybe around 15-20ish. And awarding through 4th place or something like that. I found a site that makes ribbons for you to order but there 47 cents each. and you can have whatever you want embroidered on them. Does anyone know how to make SIMPLE show ribbons that are inexpensive. and which would be the better deal? 47 cents each? or what?

Does anyone else here feel the same way? I volunteer at equine rescues on weekends and I'm disgusted with the owners of these horses! One Thoroughbred ex-racer was left in a stall smaller than a cross-tie! He couldnt even turn around! he had no fresh water and was up to his knees in dung! It just makes me sick to see horses like those in this video..... (warning, not for the faint of heart.... I could barely watch it)

and this is the EDITED VERSION!!!!

As we all know, there have been major conflicts on this forum, and I have been apart of most, along with the majority of you. Those who don't know what I'm talking about- Kudos to you!
I have developed a set of reasonable "guidelines" for this forum, if I may be so bold. I know that I have no authority, nor do I consider myself above anyone else, I am just trying to make life easier for all of us so we can enjoy the important things (our horses!)

Here are my suggestions:

-If you want to know how cute your horse is or how good of a rider you are with no critisism allowed, please put somewhere in your title- Good/nice opinions only. (though really, I don't believe we should have those questions :D)
-If you will accept critisism, you don't need to put anything special in your title, but if you wish, you may put critisism allowed.
-If you want to tell of an accomplishment, DO NOT use a question in your title, put something like: "Guess what!?", or better yet, put it under your

Ok so since I have been reading all the postings from people asking if their horsie is cute?!?!? and all the posts of the people agitated over backyard breeding does anyone else see the correllation between the 2? Are we raising a generation that is going to be breeding for something other than quality? Paint Pony, maybe we should start educating our young, our future horse owners and breeders to be more responsible!

Sorry kiddos, but I am on my last straw with you and your cutsie horses. Post a real question like "What are the pros and cons of my horses confirmation?" and take the negative along with the positive and LEARN from it. Stop getting mad when someone says something bad, heck go read what people wrote about my horses! A lot of bad but I LEARNED something.
It is YOU who will contribute to the horse overpopulation problem because you think horses are cute. No they aren't!!!! Take them more seriously, please.

We have all seen the effect of the BYB's breeding anything with a tail. And since the slaughter houses have closed, I dont see it getting any better. What rules or changes would you like to see AQHA, APHA, PHBA, ApHC, PtHA and all of the other associations put in place to help? I think that maybe offering free registration to a horse that is less than 18 months old and has been gelded may help. Maybe would encourage early gelding. (As you can tell, I am a BIG gelding fan). This may not totally solve the problem, but it may aid in slowing it down some. What are your thoughts on this?

Ok, I'm going to start jumping training next month, but for my lessons, I need a helmet. My instructor says I need an ASTM/SEI approved helmet. I have to pay with it with my own money and I've tried looking on the internet for one. Can anyone give me an estimate of how much a helmet for a 13 year old girl would cost? In case it matters, I'm pretty sure my head is average sized, lol.

i grew up riding horses...mainly quarter horses and arabians. but it's been about 10 years since i've been on one. i've been shopping around. i want a horse that is very gentle (i have a 2 year old daughter) and a horse that loves to be around humans as we plan to spend lots of time with it...even apart from riding. any breed recommendations. advice...?

A certain poster who comes on every once in a while to ask how she and her horse look, if he is a rare color, and if he is cute, etc, etc, etc. Then, when she gets tired of answers, she deletes her question, so that when someone has spent 10 minutes on giving her an answer and they go to submit it, it is no longer there. Sorry, but does this bother any one else?

It appears that there are a couple that just don't seem to give it a rest. So in an attempt to maybe alleviate the hate emails we all get, maybe if we show others the "classyness" that they exhibit, it might end. So heres mine from today......

I got shifted to one of the more advanced horses at the stables on my second day of lessons, he's a three year old quarter horse, but i'm having a few problems with him: (i ride western btw)

* he won't let me pick up his feet, and when i do pick them up he insists on putting them down 5 seconds later, i know I'm not hitting the frog or anything, but he keeps doing it

* he keeps drifting away from the rail, especially at the trot (I've just started trotting so it's probably something I'm doing) I always use my right leg to que him into the trot to try and keep him at the rail, but he does it anyway

one more question, how do i get him to slow down, somtimes when we're trotting i can feel him wanting to pick up to a canter how do i tell him to slow down? the instructor keeps telling me i'm doing good, but i don't really think so :P thanks in advance ^_^ real answers only please!

I keep putting this down in my answers and I know there are other names for it. I would just like to hear others knowledge of it and maybe put it out there because its a huge training method that will save your life.

Do you teach your horses how to do it and what are your methods for preforming one?

Thanks!

The one thing I dread is pneumonia in foals (a third die regardless of treatment) or MRLS (mare reproductive loss syndrome). Was curious what other owners, breeders, trainers feared most going wrong with their animals and if or what preventative action you take.

For me, I have 3 all time favorites, Red Rum for his ability and courage, Seattle Slew for his true beauty and Zippo Pine Bar because he was such a kind old gentleman and he stamped that on his foals. Spent many a long night working foal watch and playing peek a boo with him :-)
Which horses do you admire and what qualities draw them to you?

Took this from the dog board and adapted it for some fun! This is a really interesting and strange breed compared to other horses - see if you can guess. Here's the clues:

I am called a pony but actually am a minature horse
I have an extra molar on each side of my upper jaw
My shoulder blades are wider than normal equines
I have a less pronounced frog than other equines
Some of my breed do not have ergots or chestnuts
I am nearly extinct

My brother got a 5 yr old Paso Fino. I ride Hunters and am used to wanting the dropped, tucked nose. He naturally carries his head up and I don't know if I should be pushing him to drive from behind up through the neck to a dropped nose. Make sense? I'm riding bare back with a simple snaffle w/shanks and light rein.

I think just when I have seen it all with Ozzy, he decides something new to play.

So after him becoming "bloody" and it was just red paint from the barn owner painting, we thankfully have all that off and ready for WY state fair, nowwwwwww

He enjoyed his lick tub too much and now has mollasses allllll over his face, allllll in his fur.

How a donkey can do this to themselves and I wasn't there to actually see this amazing feat, but the end result screams it was fun.

So, in 3 days, he's in WY state fair. Any pointers on how to now get mollasses off his fur, face, nose, and I haven't really gone hunting to see where else it is.

He is soooooo smiling at me when I walked out there this morning. Of course all the mules are normal and politely lick their mineral tub, I think Ozzy must of massacred it!!!

Any hints??

Thanks,

Vickie and a no longer tri colored donkey, more like a revlon demolition.

At what point when you sign your "source" at the bottom with professional horseman, what gives you the confidence to do so?
