what does the judge look for?

They look at the gaits required and how fluid the animal moves. They look at the extension, the responsiveness and the collection of the animal.

Even if you don't think your animal is perfect, its a good class to get your animal exposed in a show atmosphere.

If you go to the ADS website (American Driving Society), they probably have info on it there.

Forgot to add---

Turnout is everything at these type of shows. You also need to study up on the proper dress and attire for your vehicle that you would be driving. Also to make sure your harness is proper for your cart. Theres alot of hidden rules that aren't posted. I am slowly learing also.

A biothane harness isn't proper for a wooden vehicle, but is for a metal.

A russet harness is proper for a wooden vehicle etc.

If you can find a driving instructor to help you with those 'hidden' regs, it helps alot.

The same things they look for in a standard dressage test, just to a slightly different degree.
