Pets - 2 August 2007

thanks to everyone who answered my question...it helped put my mind at ease. I had pretty much already made the decision, but was looking for an out.
I took him today to be put to sleep..worst day of my life, but at least Bo's happy now. I canceled my afternoon appointments at work and spent the day with him. We went to Subway where I got the "double meat" and had them put it in a bag. We went to hang out in the field behind the vet and he had his turkey and some water, about the only things he'd take in.
Then he got enough energy to make the walk into the office, and I think he knew it was time. The walk took forever cause he could barely move, and I think he was showing me that he didn't want to leave even though we both knew it was best.
He calmly walked into the room and took his place on the blanket and was so calm. The vet did his thing and I sat with him and balled my eyes out for half an hour.
I only wish you all could have known him. He was so cool. Best dog in the world.

i just found 2 baby platys in my tank but i dont know if there is more xD I don't realy wanna buy a net for them but is it ok of they are all in the same tank with a red clawed crab/ ghost shrimp/ 2 tetra/ 2 platy/ 1 molly???

Why is my molly near the water surface constantly sucking in water or debris? I know the oxygen level is not low because I have 2 oxgyenator plants, plus the light is on so the plants aren't using oxygen. Furthermore, the filter and the airstone is in top notch condition. And the 3 guppies in there are happy and swimming.

I'm thinking of getting a 20 gallon salt water Nano tank. How much live sand, and live rock will I need. Also what kind of equipment will I need to keep this tank up and running.

I know all about cycling the tank before fish and all that good stuff.

Also, I don't want to over stock, so what kind of marine life should I have? Hermit crabs, star fish, golby's, clowns??

I am thinking about starting a business finding lost pets for pet owners. I was wondering what you would expect someone to charge for this kind of service? Would you hire someone to help you find your lost pet? Whats a reasonable fee?

My Syrian hamster runs constantly on her wheel, and she never wants to be handled.
She lets me PET her, no problem, its just that when I go to pick her up, she runs away. Either that, or she just simply won't come off her wheel.

And if I DO ever get her out, I have a special 'play cage', which is just a separate 4-level cage made of metal where I have many toys and obstacles for her to play with.

HOWEVER, she just chews on the cage bars, which I know is very unhealthy for her.

I want her to run around and play with other toys, but she doesn't.

I have tried a few things, but I don't know what else to try.

PLEASE HELP!!

We moved to a new state from California last year, only to discover the horrible conditions for local animals. The only non-kill shelter for SEVEN surrounding counties is full to capacity, not accepting any more animals. The local animal shelter puts down nearly three quarters of all the animals it receives; killing 285 animals last month. Their staff is unfriendly and unwelcoming of volunteers. Abandoned looking barns near the road by my home are known for dog abandonment; I've rescued four dogs from there, myself. Unfortunately, the land's owner will shoot any strays he sees. Another symptom of the poor care: law enforcement officers can only remove an animal if it is proven they receive inadequate food, water and/or shelter. There in lies my problem. My neighbors have two large dogs.Both dogs are walking mats; I've never seen anything like it! They have difficulty moving...they barely made it through the heat of the recent drought. Is there anything I can do?

My hamster is about six months old. Tonight I noticed that his bottom really seems to stick out on both sides under his tail. I did some research and found that Syrian male hamsters have testicles that are noticeable. I'm not sure if this is just normal or something more. I don't really want to pay the vet $50 to find out it is normal anatomy. Does anyone have any experience or advice to offer?

Like okay...
At dinner time.. My mom might cook chicken, pasta, and green beans. She serves everyone in our family, and then gets out two bowls [the ones WE eat out of!] and fills them up to the top with the EXACT same thing that we eat!! She will put the bowls on the ground and let our two dogs chow down!

[One of our dogs is 4, and the other is only 9 months old.]

My mom is spoiling our dogs. They won't even eat their dog food anymore, because they are addicted to human food!
Oh and everynight, my dad gives them about a spoonfull of peanut butter.

It is getting out of control. Our four year old dog is getting really fat. They get exercise, but this food is completley unhealthy for dogs, and im sure can kill them down the road.

I've tried telling my parents. My dad is kind of on my side, but he isn't really in charge of what my mom feeds them, so it doesnt matter. But how can I stop my mom from feeding them OUR food!? And how can I get our dogs to eat THEIR food?!

My grandmaw has a pomeranian and BRAGS about it 24/7!

The dog is SO SPOILED! Its not aloud to be put in a kennel, and has killed 3 cats, crippled one cat so it can't walk, and HATES little kids, bites them all the time!

My grandmaw loves the dog, and I'd never want to permanently hurt it. But whenever I talk about getting a dog she laughs and says "my pomeranian will whoop it" it whoops cha-wa-wa's all the time so please dont say that. This dog is evil! If you get within 5 feet of it while it's eating it tries to bite you, so PLEASE give me an idea of a dog I could get that would just "teach it a lesson". So if I bring it out my grandmaws, I don't have to worry about it getting killed.
