You can't have conversations with macaws. You can have conversations with AG & eclectus but it all takes time to teach them & patience. I don't know what otehr parrots there are.
You REALLY need to get on google & look up these parrots. Not everyone here is right about things so google for websites & forums.

you can teach a macaw to say certain things, but it takes allot of time. most of the time it will just pick up words that you say. like my macaw, one day i was walking past its cage and told my brother to go turn off the faucet, and next thing i knew, Holly Bird was saying "go turn off the faucet" !! and she only said it once or twice, but she still said it. i know some one else who has a macaw, and they have their own little way of teaching him. every day at the same time, they go and put fresh food and water in his cage. and while doing so, they say the same thing, every day: "here's your water" and "here's your food". it takes alot of work and time, but it can be done.
but a conversation, i'm not so sure about. macaws a smart, but i dont think that they are smart enough to actually hold a conversation. although, you might be able to teach it to respond with an answer, every time that you ask a certain question. but that takes HARD work.
lemme know how it goes.

Macaw's, like parrots and some other birds can learn words, but they are just mimicking sounds. No bird actually understands human language, they just mimic the sound, so a conversation, per se, is just not possible. Unless you train the bird to respond to specific questions with specific answers. It's not really a conversation, but it's closer than just random words.

You cna teach it words...but I don't know about conversations. It could happen though. My amazon will tell me OCme here come here come here! Then once I am there he says pretty bird and then i give him treats and praise him. Then after I have tlaked fr awhile he says Shut up...lol. I think they leanr hwo to use certain phrases and or words to communicate with you. So I'd say yes but it may take awhile. I hope you didn't mean in one day because that is impossible.
But realize it may take the bird awhile to get the idea of what the word means. it really helps if you use the words in context. Then they use it in contxt too, well usually. Some birds even have convos with themselves lol. In my opinion it is possible, even if sometimes the bird doesn't know what they are saying.

Its impossible to teach your macaw in just one day. It takes patience when you want to teach your macaw to talk. Talk to it everyday for about 1-2 hours everyday and it might say one of the words that you always say.
Good Luck:)

If you teach him what each word means from when he was a weanling you may possibly have a conversation. African Greys can do this. Macaws I dont think so.Check this video out.

that depends some do and some don't and you might just need to really train it if you wanted to do that.
