Pets - 9 October 2006

I am looking for a well-behaved guardian dog for my mum. My nephews (6 and 9 years old) occasionally visits her so I would like a dog which is gentle with kids. I am concern with the safety issues at the place my mum lives in. Just recently her neighbour had a break-in (armed with knives!)

My cat does not go outside and he has fleas. I have given him couple of baths with flea shampoo.... he doesn't love me for that. I also have used flea powder on him too and he still will get what's called 'flea dirt' around his neck and on top of his head. He is a year and a half old. Also he has worms and I give him medication for them but they don't totally go away.

Help my new puppy keeps peeing on carpets only. She doesnt pee anywhere else. What can i do to stop this habit? She's really young so i dont want to bring her outside. I've put out newspaper for her at a designated spot but she doesnt really get the idea.

We broke him of walking around the chair 3 times before he jumps up on us, now he's back doing it again. Or is he just being a cat.

do they have to have very clean water, or are they found in polluted water?
No i am not thinking of getting one i know that they are protected!
It is just that i know a pond where many newts live and the water looks so murky- i wondered how delicate they are, and do they tend to live in ponds where fish live too?

My daughters cat came out of the cats home yesterday (had to spend 5 weeks there, due to a house move and waiting in the chain). Cat came home, sat on the stairs for 4 hours, giving everyone dirty looks (use to love me but hissed at me). Refused food and looked generally peed off. Has anyone experienced this with a cat?
