Yes you can find help with that, and it's fairly easy. As for the girl who said that no one can help you and opined that you don't know much about dogs, there's a dog to match every personality and lifestyle - and most people start out knowing about dogs by getting one. I'm guessing that she has a pit bull for fighting, LOL!
Google for Dog Breed Selectors, and test yourself with several of them - they'll ask you questions about yourself, your lifestyle, what you want in a dog, etc, and give you answers based on your input. Copy and paste the breeds on each one into notepad.
Next, Google for Dog Breeds Ttraits lists, and pick several - the quality of information varies greatly - the ones on the commercial food sites aren't even worth looking at, for instance. Go for the AKC and UKC and breed organizations sites.
Now pick the top breeds which come up over and over again in your Selections tests, and decide which ones you think you'd like to have. Once you've done that, go to the Breeds Traits lists, and read several lists for information on each breed. You can copy and paste that info into notepad too and have it all in one place.
Armed with this info you can make an informed decision on what breed/s best suit you, and go from there. Once you've decided on a breed, and do find a dog, make sure that the dog wants YOU. My dog was 4 weeks old when he picked me by crawling up my hand when his litter brothers toddled away, and he's never been far from me since I brought him home at 7 wks old. He's my perfect companion, I've loved the breed since I was a child, and they're ALWAYS listed on my best Breed Selections.
This is a fairly bulletproof method of finding a suitable companion animal, and you'll learn a lot about both your own and the dog's needs in the process, plus be aware of any possible negative traits, to boot. My dog weighs 11 lbs and is fearless, he likes to challenge much larger dogs. Some people would see this as a negative trait, but I'm the pretty much the exact same way, so it's perfect. ;D

Dogs are a very individual choice - so the best way to pick the perfect one for you is do your own research. Either get an all breed book or better yet, go to a dog show and see all the different breeds available. When you find some you like the looks of, research that breed to find out about their energy levels, health concerns, grooming needs, etc. to see if that's the right dog for you. Then you need to actually meet some of the dogs you like, talk to people who have them and interact with the dogs. That's how you'll find your perfect dog and good luck in your search!

I have always been a dog lover.. and all dogs have known this.. but after my daughter got bit.. i got scared of them, so instead of forever being scared, and never having a dog again, i started to find out about the personalities of different breeds.. here is a web site that will help you get an idea about what kind of dog will match your personality..http://www.dog.com/breed/index.asp but.. sometimes a mute from the pound is your perfect match. the pound and animal foster homes will let you spend some time with the dogs to see if you are good match.. good luck

Whatever you read...believe it if you hear it a lot.
For example, I read that yorkies run off and that they dig. I got one anyhow. OHMYGOSH, the heart attacks that dog gave me, chasing busses, kids on bikes! And the huge HOLES he dug...including digging up the cable to the tv outside..thrice!
Really read up on any breed. First, determine size. Do you want a small dog? Medium? Etc.
Where will the dog sleep? If you intend to keep it outside, you don't want a poodle or a maltese. (I'm against keeping any dog outside by the way.)
Next, personality and hobbies. If you hunt, get a lab. If you like walks, a dog that will sit at your feet, wait for you to get home, get a lab. Best bigger dog.
If you want a huge HUGE fur monster that is a lap dog too, get a Bernese Mountain Dog. Just HUGE beautiful dogs that shed like mad.
If you want a pup that will sit in your lap, and you have a fence, get a yorkie.
Etc. etc. Good luck, it's a bigger decision than most folks think.

Choose the dog that would fit your lifestyle then. Each breed has different needs and characteristics; like, the smaller dogs or the toy dogs can't live without attention and a lot of maintenance. Fighting dogs needs lots of excercise; etc. You can research about them or ask petshop staffs. Good luck!

hi i have several pets my self usally when picking the right dog check its temperment grab there paws with one hand and hold tight if they try to bit not a good dog for kids but if they lay there and let you do it go for it. all dogs are diffrent so when going to a pet store look for along time before you make up your mind that this is the one. Also if you go to a pivet owner always go with the runt they make better pets and are usally very loal to there owners. Pets take a lot of time so make sure you take you pet to a school that will help you train them properly. Hope you enjoy your new dog i know i love mine.

You need to think about things like excercise - are you active or more of a couch potatoe. If you get a dog that needs a lot of excercise and you don't like to excercise both of you are going to be miserable. Also think about size of dog, you level of patience with trainingSome dogs are so eager top please that they will do anything to make you happy and others are extremely independant and even when they know what you want will sometimes choose to ignore you.

No one can help you with that. I'm almost tempted to tell you to get a hamster instead because you obviously don't know much about dogs. If you must, go to the SPCA or your local pound and save one from certain death. Our pet's personalities are somewhat molded by their owners and since there are no perfect humans, there will be no perfect dogs.

go check the American Kennel Club website (www.akc.org) they have a test to find out which breed will best suits you. Take your time in choosing the right dog for you. I did and got a senior dog who needed a good home to retire.. Best thing I ever did!
