I've been watching the Virginia stuff and started thinking about Natalee Holloway for some reason. I searched on the internet for things that are going on with her search and everything ends in June of 06?! Any updates?

Alluding to the VT tragedy, Obama went on to say the following:

"There's also another kind of violence that we're going to have to think about. It's not necessarily the physical violence, but the violence that we perpetrate on each other in other ways," [Obama] said. He then went on to catalogue other forms of "violence."

There's the "verbal violence" of [Don] Imus.

There's "the violence of men and women who have worked all their lives and suddenly have the rug pulled out from under them because their job is moved to another country."

There's "the violence of children whose voices are not heard in communities that are ignored."

And so, Obama says, "there's a lot of different forms of violence in our society…."

So being unemployed, or ignored, or called a name is somehow to be compared to being shot in the head at point blank range?

Do these comparisons trivialize the awful events at VT?

I live in Australia and I dont go to school anymore, Im 28, so I dont really know what the atmosphere of schools is like these days but I cant imagine anyone wanting to shoot up their school like has happened tragically in the U.S. just recently. How do people feel about this and what, if any, possible reasons could there be for this to happen? Is it a case of a mental illness being fatally undiagnosed and untreated , or is it a case of the craziness of Americas gun laws? I am not asking these questions to be at all confrontational, I simply would like there to be some discussion, and maybe an outlet for people who need to talk about this event, as I do. It is a very sad occurence and I feel deep sorrow for the friends and families of those killed and injured. I have a 2 year old son and i wonder what kind of world I am bringing him into.....

Why do they continue to broadcast the details of this incident so openly? Isn't this what incites other crazy people in other parts of the country to commit similar acts of violence?

In the VT massacre, I know that Cho didn't have any friends and was presumed a loner.

Now there are students, coming out of the woodwork to the media, wanting to tell their side of their story of Cho's secrets and they hardly know the guy. These popular students who want to be seen on camera are so eager to be in the limelight. I could tell they are lying. These posers are so fake and full of themselves!!

Don't you agree?

Why is this necessary for the public to see? It's glorifying it like it's a movie.

All I can think of is the emotionally deranged people who see this and think it was a really cool idea, just like a movie- and want to try it.

Media is ridiculous.

I believe I was watching the CBS news report of the VT shootings, and one figure was articulating his thoughts on school safety. He basically said schools should be a safe haven, and there is no need for basically having it set up like a prison. That incidents like VT are a price we pay for our freedoms. Does anyone know the way in which he articulated the idea that our schools should not be like prisons? Or at least can they say it better than I did?

I think it's a terrible idea. Officials in the Columbine tragedy sealed records in hopes of preventing copycat killers. Glorifying Cho (and giving him what he wants by broadcasting these tapes) might unfortunately encourage copycats.

Furthermore, I personally can't stomach any more gruesome details in this case. And I certainly can't watch the news now because they're playing these tapes that the killer made. I'm having nightmares about this tragedy and I wasn't even there!

I'm wondering...why haven't the news mentioned any comments from the shooters parents. Yeah yeah I don't care to know about their laundry business. Lets talk about their character. I'm sure they are in shock, embarrassed and possibly feel threatened ..I say threatened because someone might feel complete out of control rage over the lose of their loved one and feel the need to retaliate. But I'm curious to know why the news have not broadcasted any comments from the parents....not even "sorry".
He was a bullied by his peers. I would like to know about his parents parenting. Perhaps the were overly stricted, abusive, didn't socially like much themselves.

The politicians and talkshow host are clueless. They are talking about the writing on his body and Islamic phrase. However he was just a nut who played too many on-line 1st shooter games. The writting was probably his on-line gaming alias. His manifesto will probably be quotes from an on-line game. Again, my question is what video game did he play? I know there is someone who gamed with him?

I can't think of anything more insulting to the families of the victims than to give the gunman exactly what he wanted--the national spotlight. They could have released a transcript or paraphrased what was in the video without plastering it all over the internet. It just seems like giving him exactly what he wanted. Am I the only one disgusted by this?
