I just read this AP story ---- http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070605/ap_on_re_eu/wartime_pope_1

What do you think about it?

Check out the fourth paragraph in particular -- such a bad spin job it's almost comical.

The pope's speaking out would have accelerated the exterminations? First, the Germans really couldn't have done things much faster than they did. Second, since a lot of Catholics tend to hypnotically obey every Vatican edict, perhaps a denunciation would have prompted some heroic life-saving counter-measures. There are numerous accounts of people of all faiths [including Catholics] helping the persecuted; bishops, cardinals, and popes were not included. I have nothing against Catholic people, but the hierarchy of the church is another matter.

At the risk of receiving a lot of angry responses and dozens of 'I'm bored of this' comments... I'll ask this one question...

The McCann parents left their children alone in a holiday apartment while they ate at a restaurant 50 yards away in what they considered to be an idillic, family resort and that was safe.
My garden at home is 120yards long. If I go out into the garden when they are sleeping - am I guilty of neglect?
As I said before in one of my previous posts - the McCanns didn't sit Madeline on the pavement with a notice around her saying 'please take me' - they had the children in bed, close by, in what was considered a safe area.
I do not condone leaving children alone at all - but what I am saying is, put it into perspective. The guilty person our hate should be aimed at is the sicko who took advantage of the situation and snatched Madeline in the first place.
Why be venegeful of two parents who have lost their child simply because they are not emotional wrecks?

Now obviously I am opening myself up to opportunites for cheap shots and other frivolity here but please let's get some serious discourse and thoughts shared here. I don't mind discussion of race and socio-economics its real and a factor so don't be timid (don't be dumb either).

I could have asked, "whose pain is more marketable/palatable?" but I didn't because its a little rhetorical. Anyone who wants to share serious thoughts (but may be a little shy of the forum) can email me instead.

they were asked if they had anything to do with little maddys abduction. why is this the only time these 2 have ever showed any emotion?. its a shame they dont put that much passion and feeling into finding their little girl. dont you think its strange that they have never showed the same emotion when appealing to find their daughter ,that they left unattended and unprotected? it was only a matter of time before somebody started to ask these kind of questions. that little girl is suffering through their neglect,so why havent these questions been put to them before now?

With regard to the press conference where finally a reporter (German no less, trust them to cut right to the chase) asked them if they had anything to do with the abduction.

Man the look of surprise on their faces. hahaha ........ priceless!!!

Maybe they will finally take a bite of a reality sandwich and realise the gravity of their mistake (and to those supporters who say they do realise how grave their mistake is, WELL, clearly they don't since they see no need to apologize for it).

Time to stop the charade, come home, answer the tough questions that need to be answered and we'll go from there. The smokescreen is slowly fading away ........

Am I the only one who could care less about the firing of the 8 or so attoreny generals for being lously at thier jobs. I am now paying $3.00 a gallon to go to work. there is not mass transit where I live nor in most of this country. I drive a small auto, but it still cost. This has affected my family 100 times more than these firings but that seems to be all the "new" congress cares about., Am I the only one who feels this way. Buy the way I do not care if they where fired for political reason, poor job preformance or what. that is not the issue, the issue is why is congress woried more about that than what the cost of fuel is doing to working families.

Wasn't the special prosecutor supposed to figure out who leaked the information about Valerie Plame being a CIA agent? Mr. Libby didn't leak anything.

I think this is about the special prosecutor's ego. He couldn't do what he was hired to do. He couldn't find who leaked the info. So he went after the highest government official he could throw a charge at.

I hope that our President will have the courage to pardon him. He probably won't, at least not until he leaves office. Why not now, though? Anyone that will hate Bush for pardoning Libby probably already hates him, and his failure to pardon Libby won't endear him to anyone else either.

Your thoughts?

I see the Libby conviction as the calculated and intended means to first take out Cheney..before they move on with their pathetic bloodlust for power..using the Judicial Branch once again to circumvent the natural order of Gov't

What I mean is, lets pretend for a moment they WEREN'T Madeleines parents but they were left in charge of Maddy and her 2 siblings, to take them on a holiday and return them safely.

Would the reaction be the same? I imagine all hell would break loose as to how irresponsible a carer could be and they would have been dragged off by the police and the whole world would be against them.

So why is the fact they are Maddies parents any different in this case?

Does being a parent of the child, mean you can take liberties with your children that you couldnt do as a paid carer? That because it's 'your' child you are immune from prosecution as you would have been if it was someone elses child?

The bottom line is they were adults who had to look after Madeleine. They failed that. Therefore they should appear in a court to explain their actions. I really cant see what could be more open and shut than this?

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I have given mine plenty of times and been sadly slagged off for it. Usually by the MCcann supporters. I just don't understand why people get so nasty in the first place. Yes I have retaliated to many of the nasty anwers I received and I think I have every right to. Anyone else having a similar problem??

There was a relativly recent incident in our area where 5 women were abducted, raped and murdered. it was hard to find anything on the news, and there wasn't that much publicity. there is never this much publicity with any child that has been abducted, so why are they making a big thing about this little girl?

Here it is:-

Single mothers are to be invited to give the go-ahead to the naming and shaming of deadbeat dads who fail to support their children.

What if they name and shame wrong person just to give them a hard time?

Sounds a bad idea to me.

It works for me when I've lost my car keys!

If I keep looking for them, I can't find them.

Then the minute I stop - they turn up!
