There was a relativly recent incident in our area where 5 women were abducted, raped and murdered. it was hard to find anything on the news, and there wasn't that much publicity. there is never this much publicity with any child that has been abducted, so why are they making a big thing about this little girl?

its not that i am unsympothetic, i just feel that they had the option to use the hotels child care service, which they didn't. they left the doors to the fround floor apartment unlocked, and its all a bit suss. the said they would never leave their other children...where are they? i am questioning the amount of time spent on tv, etc. if it was my child i would do the same, BUT with my other children and showing emotion. the imprestion myself and all my friends get is that they have no emotion at all.

What about the hundreds of missing children in the UK? I know that in this sick and twisted world it happens occasionally, but the amount of coverage for this event is ridiculous. I think it's partly because it happened abroad.

I feel that the media have given far too much publicity and is very probably putting enormous stress on the parents of other abducted children, especially when a lot of people believe the McGanns to be partly at fault.

Why this incident should be any different is out of order, any child abduction is sick, and I strongly support any action to try and find/return the victims, but it is grossly unfair to treat this family so differently to others who may have lost children in more severe cirumstances.

To put it simply, yes publicity is good to a point, but too much and public support will fade as people lose interest in what is becoming a media-orientated issue not a family-related one. But as always, this is pretty controversial...

Those murders did get a lot of news coverage coz I watched it . The reason madeleine is getting so much publicity is because her parents are driving a campaign to keep her in the news. They have to do this because the portuguese police do not release anything and rarely talk to the media unlike over here. If the parents weren't doing this peolpe would have forgotten about her a long time ago. How can anyone look at that little girls face and want the media to just give up on her she is so innocent and never asked for any of this, so I say keep the publicity going.

Those murders were well covered in the media. I live in Ireland and it was all over the news here and Sky News,,

As for all the coverage for Madeline: I happen to think this is a good thing. There should however be official channels for these types of incidents throughout Europe. Our borders have become too easy to cross and people can move around too easily: the amount of people on Interpol's most wanted list and missing children's list is testament to this.

Who can say that if there had not been so much media coverage for other missing children that they would not have been found? All children deserve this attention, but I think it should be properly managed by a central authority, in a controlled manner.

There has been no real news about this case for about 2 weeks, even then that proved a false lead (R Murat), and yet the Mccann case has been in the media 24/7.Its bizarre really, perhaps all this celeb Big Brother type coverage is a reflection of today's media. The Mccann's are considered a "Good" story, both Doctors, a family on holiday in the beautiful Algarve, and a little blonde girl gone missing.
A child missing from a working class family on holiday in Clacton would certainly not have had the same coverage.
In any case, i believe that the Portuguese Police have been concerned about the level of publicity. They think that it has in fact Lessened the chance of finding her alive. The perpetrator feeling the need to dispose of the child and go to ground.

I think yes it is odd that she is getting the attention she is getting unlike other missing children cases. Her parents however are the ones making this happen. It is a double edged sword in my eyes. They put out to much info and the abductors get scared and get rid of her...but if you dont have her name out there people will forget go about their business and walk right past her without even thinking about it. Fact for me is it should not have happened to begin with and if not for negligence she woulld be safe and sound back in the UK at home.

candi k - we are blaming the McCanns because this is undeniably their fault. It is because we are so angry with them for bringing this fate upon a poor innocent child that we can be quite vitriolic. How does it help Madeleine if we wrap them in cotton wool? The best way I can think of to help other children (who for me are INFINITELY more important than the McCanns feelings) is to make it very clear that this is totally unacceptable behaviour and hope that this might save a child from being pointlessly endangered in future.

There is something slightly off about this thing. It is a tragedy, what happened. However, you are correct, there seems to be far too much attention paid on the girl's plight.
However, have you noticed, the media's interest is now waning and shifting to other things.
Why? Rich family, suspicious circumstances, very young family left behind while the parents are out eating. Attention should have been paid on THIS, as a possible cause of the girl being missing.

i find slagging off the mccanns so upsetting, they made a mistake and everyones continuously blaming them.
they need support and thankfully they are getting it, there are alot more decent folk in the world than bad.

of course all missing kids need publicity and with the internet in wide use now these kids are being found because of it.
why dont we press the government to change the law to properly punish paedophile and child abusers and why dont they understand that they cannot be rehabilitated?

firstly I think you'll find the news was COVERED in footage about the girls in Ipswich....where the incident did fail was in the arrest & charge of a suspect & what has happened since.

I do think there's a tad too much about this case, however they are pushing it to stay in the media's attention because they want their child back. I dont think thats hard to understand.

I notice things have gone quiet of late.
