We live in an exposed area and the wind can blow pretty badly here e.g. plum trees are only as high as the small wall, other tree is very lopsided. At the moment all i have is grass - which is fine but i miss my colour and varience. I have two large containers which I will put in bulbs and the stone wall will take wall plants. What can i put in the beds - minding that I haven't dug them yet?

My daughter want a new light. She had a ceiling fan. So I removed the ceiling fan and replaced it with just a light fixture. Problem is the light stays on all the time. Can't turn it on or off with the switch. I looked at the switch. There are two black wires and a red wire hooked to it. The white wires are in the back of the switch twisted together but NOT attached to the switch. Only the two black wires and red wire are attached to. There are two sets of wires inside the switch. A black wire from one set is attached to the switch then a black and the red wires from the second set is also attached. In the ceiling I have four black wires [wall socket wires} and four white wires then my red. And of course the ground wire. When the ceiling fan was up one of the black wires was attached to the blue wire for the fan. What do I connect that black wire to now? Have tried attaching to all black but doesn't help. Do I need to attach this black wire to the white to turn off and on.

I am looking into having a deck built. It is 16'x12'. Ledger board w/ flashing is already installed on house. It will be your basic wood deck with a bench along one of the 12' sides. I just need a rough quote. This is for labor only! $500? $750? $1000? I live in Richmond, VA.

My lodgers have made a pigs ear out of the kitchen and the worst hit place seems to be the oven. I will be wearing 3 pairs of rubber gloves to deal with the oven rings they have left behind....truly disgusting - they will NOT be getting back their bond...grrr...anyway, what products can you recommend to get rid of the stuck on grime on the rings - something that will work. Thanks

My concerns are with plastic bags/containers and folding. My main collection that I'm focused on is vintage scarves that range from 100%silk, acetate, and so forth. I also have a very valueable collection of vintage handkercheifs and tablecloths. Any suggestions??

tighten the nuts under the cabinet at the base of the sink from underneath. All I see is these black things you can twist with your fingers if there wasn't so much putty on them. Yesterday the guys that were helping were saying I needed to use a special tool to tighten these nuts. Can anyone please be more specific as to where these nuts are and if I am supposed have all this putty under the sink? Also, when I was down there looking I bumped the hose and it started to leak so I had to turn off my cold water. I tried turning off the main water (the silver thing in the middle) and I got squirted. I haven't had any problems with this sink in the past and I have been here almost 3 years. Is this beyond me fixing this? Should I pay for a plummer??? (I really don't want to because I just had to buy a new air conditioner for $2500.00). Please feel free to email me, or send me links of step by steps. Thanks.

I just moved into a new home that is all electirc. In my previous home I had natural gas, so I had a carbon mononoxide dectector. I just unpacked my old detector and plugged it in for the heck of it. It had a high reading of carbon monoxide. Is that possible or is it defective. Can I have carbon monoxide without having natural gas.

I am at my witts end with our wall heater. Even if I kick the thermostat up to 90, nothing will happen. Nothing. However, if I hit the damn thing it will turn on, for about 5 minutes, then turn off again.

We had this issue last winter too. Not wanting to freeze again, we had someone come out and fix it, or so we thought. One pilot light generator, one month and $280 later, we are back to square one. :)

Annnnd, from what I have found, we were completely ripped off for the pilot generator.

Im cold and cranky. Please, any info on what is going would be great! (we've already tried a new thermostat, too)

When I was taking down X-Mas lights on my roof the other day I noticed a small hole on my roof. It was only @ 2 inches round and the shingle was torn apart. I know a raccoon did it. I hear them up there often. They live in an old abondened house next door, and they have dug a big hole in that roof where they live. How do I keep them from doing the same thing to my house?
