I'd like to paint the yucky wood looking veneers white?

I was indeed thinking of removing the doors and hardware...but the veneers are definitely, like, stick on formica or something similar. How much would it cost to get someone to paint them for me? Any ideas?

Start by cleaning all the grease off the cabinet/doors with a really good kitchen de-greaser. Then sand all the surfaces that you want to paint with a 220 grit sandpaper to give the paint something to hold onto. Prime the surfaces with a high quality primer, something like KILZ and then paint with a satin or semigloss paint.
Have fun on your 2 weekend project.

"Hard" may not strictly be the issue. More important might be the substance of the veneer. If it's a wood veneer, and you clean and prime it, you can roll/ brush/ or spray your color choice.

If it's something like a Mica, then you'll have a greater challenge.

Without knowing how much effort you wish to put into this, will you remove the doors and hardware? Is the framework of the cabinets the same as the doors?

If you're going to roll them, I suggest a Mini roller, but with Foam covers, as opposed to a NAP. The foam will allow that a decent paint will finish out more smoothly.

Your problem isn't unique. Most mass produced cabinetry is GLIT (MDF) and some aren't even given decent veneers. Some are covered with a laminate similar to mass produced, discount furniture, with a grained look contact paper.

your best bet is to prime the wood before painting another tip- sand the wood with a hard grit before priming- it gives the primer a surface to adhere to- have fun- happy new year
