About ten thousand houses were distroyed, more than 7000 people died in the earthquake on May 27th in Yogyakarta and Central Java.
With the help of the government and other local and international organisations the population in the devasted area will hopefully soon be able to start rebuilding their homes. Many of them - or most - will use ASBESTOS material on their roofs instead of the formerly used tiles, because it is cheaper and lighter than tiles. That is very popular in Indonesia nowadays and people really have no idea at all, that asbestos might cause any problems !
Who can tell us, how dangerous is asbestos on the roof for the people living in these houses ?
I am very worried and concerned that this might become a time bomb and reduce even further the living quality in this country.
I live in the neighbouring town of Solo and help earthquake victims on a private scale to find logistics and donations.
Thank you so much for every serious comment !
