I don't have time, nor the money to replace or raface my kitchen cabinets. What is the best way to make them look good or like new.

I live on the top floor of my quad-plex building. The morning sun comes in through my bedroom, crosses over the roof about midday, hits the front of the building around 2-ish and pretty much stays there until it sets at night (which ends up being about 8-ish). On top of that, our summers get to be around 90+ degrees. The main area in my apartment gets like 70% of the days sun and as such makes my apartment almost unbearable. Once the sun is on half of the deck, we close the drapes and keep them closed. We keep a fan in our bedroom and two in the main room, along with a swamp cooler fan, but it still stays so hot! I have a feeling my animals are getting miserable with the heat (except for my tropical bird), as I am too! Our deck has no sort of shading whatsoever from the building (the eaves on extend about 4"), so I have been thinking about investing in an umbrella or making an awning-type system to make more shade in hopes that would help.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Rods detached from inside of frame and appear to act as guides for the sash in the frame. They can be pushed up but don't stay in the frame. Windows will not stay open when raised.

I have 2 ac units for my house - one upstairs and one downstairs. My contractor tells me that one of the units needs to be replaced and quoted me $6k. Is this reasonable? Sounds awfully expensive. Any thoughts?

We added to much algecide and the pool got cloudy. We have tried a clarifier and shock but its not helping. We have also ran the pump for 2 days and cleaned the filter 3 time.

We are in the process of buying a house that doesn't have any ventiliation in the roof. The roof is basically flat and after walking around on the roof we have found a couple of spongy spot. The roof is approx. 3200 square feet and we are wondering how much it would cost to reinstall new plywood, add ventilation and then refoof the entire house. We are going to be asking for a deduct on the purchase price, but I don't even know where to begin in figuring this cost.

I am in the process of replacing wooden windows in my garage with UPVC ones from Wickes. It took me about half an hour to get the beading away from the frames to enable me to remove the glass prior to fitting frames. They were very tight to get off. Having fitted the frame and replaced the glass ,myself and two friends have all tried to get the beading back into the frames but have found it just about impossible. Has anyone fitted Wickes frames and if so how do you get the beading back ?

I have an old tobacco barn, and most of the green shingle material has fell off. I would like to know if anyone knows what this material is called, and where I could by some more. It is about 2 foot wide and looks like it would come in long rolls. The texture of it is just like the texture of shingles. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently moved to a house - fairly big (2000sqft). Unfortunately, whenever anyone opens a tap or the shower in the bathrooms or the kitchen noise carries across the entire house. What could be the problem? Water pressure?

The rot is in two places, the bottom board that holds a glass window pane and in the bottom 10 inches of one of the vertical supports.

Is there any way to "treat" the wood to strengthen the existing structure and prevent any further rot or will I have to have the patio doors reframed?
