I have a huge backyard with a lot of woods. There are bare spaces. It does not get a lot of sunlite. I would like to grow something there I could eat. Chives? Garlic? Mushrooms? Whatever does not require a lot of sun. Any suggestions?

I really like peonies and would like to use them as part of my floral wedding arrangements. However I know that off season, flowers are pricier and I'm trying to estimate my budget.

I want to grow some nice red bell peppers and thought I would take some of the seeds and plant them. Should I wait and dry them out or can I plant them right into soil fresh?

Woody shrub growing in central Iowa.
Opposite, pinnately compound leaves.
Leaflets have serrated margin.
Not Acer (Box Elder), Fraxinus (Ash), or Sambucus (Elderberry).

Any ideas would be great.

I am responsible for maintaining my grandmothers LARGE garden for the next week. She left one day ago and already some of the flowers look like they're dying.

A few of them appear to droop and look to be curling up and hardening. I believe she watered them before she left and I watered them again in the evening. The next morning I watered them, then watered them again in the evening. The temperatures been around 90 degrees and about half of the plants are hanging on pots above the fence while the others are in the ground.

The garden is about three feet wide but goes all around the perimiter of the yard and there is a ton of stuff. I usually run the water right where the plants roots are for about ten seconds then move to the next plant, the whole routine usually takes me 45minutes. Unfortunetly these plants aren't looking too good and she will be very disappointed if she returns home to dead plants.

Any tips on how I can keep them alive?

Here's a challenge for the green thumbs out there.
I'd like to create a perrenial garden, 50 feet long, 10 feet deep, on a gentle curving pattern, to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. The site is protected from northern winds and has full morning and southern sun during the summer.
I'm going to move onto a cleared 200'X200' wooded plot with very rich soil and would like to eventually build a more complex garden from this starting point.
Which of you creative gardeners have the talent to show me what you can create?
I plan to put this little plot in front of a pergola which will be attached to a 3 season room attached to a mobile home, facing directly south.

We use the chocolate mint for mojitos and use the leaves in the drink. The plant is really healthy, but their are little gnats or something all over it. We don't really enjoy bugs in our drinks.
