I need a Good quality high performance ride on mower. Potentially it may need to cut up to 7 acres.
I see MCCulloch are fairly reasonably priced but are they good quality..? REcommendations for hard wearing quality mowers please..

Well my favorite brands are no longer made, Dynamark and Murray. I have 3 Dynamarks that have had the heck beat out of them and are still running great ( theyre like at least 20 years old) - I like my Murrays as well - both are easy to repair, run a long time. MTD is a good manufacturer ( and its spinoff models) , I bot a White LT12 ( MTD)in 1992 brand new and my father still mows today with it, other then basic maintence , a new deck spindle and a set of blades, its run great since day one.
My fathers neighbor bot a Cub Cadet new a few years ago - its a serious maintenence hog - the deck always packs with cut grass ( after every mowing needs blowing out), seems to eat deck blades ( its on its 5th set - and no, theres no rocks in the yard, but it mows aboot 5 acres of yard tho), had a few minor problems. I like the look of the new zero turn Cub ( looks like a racer) but not the $5000 asking price. My friend has a JD 185 - an older one with a kawasaki twin - hes had some issues with the hydrostatic fan blades, few other things, but runs good for the most part . The only bad things about Cubs and JD? Forget lifting them by hand, they weigh well over 300 lbs and theyre pretty slow.
One things for sure, dont get em from a home depot or lowes, unless you want one thats sat outside for who knows how long . I dont think Sears tractors are much better , least not the new ones. Whatever you do pick - stick with a decent engine brand like Briggs and Stratton or Kohler .

If you buy a mulcher, you shouldn't really need a bagger. Mulching is fantastic for the lawn, it returns nitrogen to the soil, helps aeration, and reduces landfill usage. I have a Black and Decker electric which I bought used from a guy who had it several years, and it's worked like a champ for about 5 additional years. Honda makes the best engines on the planet, if you want a gas-powered unit. I consider Snapper and Toro to be great products too. Do check Epinions as another poster recommended, you can find great reviews on virtually any product type.

McCulloch are terrible - they are just cheap and nasty.

Honda or Lawnflite are reputable brands. Honda is the better engine.

7 Acres is too much for any Ride on though - you should be looking at a small tractor.

I love my Cub Cadet. Cousin has a Deere that doesn't run like a Deer.

Think you will want 25 HP or better to handle that much mowing.
