I need to cut some steel pipes that are easily accessible in my walls (I tore the sheet rock down already), and I was wondering if using a jigsaw with a proper metal cutting blade would hurt my jigsaw or do I need to borrow a sawzaw?

of the one above it. Specifically I wne to urban outfitters and they had a very nice cubicle storage unit. I want to make a similar unit with cubes, one above the other, but how do you fasten the dividers on top of one another when fastening one prevents the fastening of another?

My husband and i want to rip up our berber carpet and replace it with either new carpet or the faux wood flooring. We were thinking about doing one room at a time just so every room in the house won't be a mess. Has anyone replaced carpet in their house themselves and is it really difficult to put in new flooring?

This is part two to the question that I was helped with earlier today (thanks to all who answered). Part one was: I had power in an outlet but my 240V Air conditioner would not work when plugged in. I called Con Ed who had botched up some work a few months ago, they came, they blamed it on the last crew and they fixed it. My 2nd floor A/C works but my 1st floor still does not.

I ran the A/C by extension cord to the upstairs outlet. Plugged it on, it works. So I know the A/C is not faulty.

Next I bought a multimeter and tested the outlet.
Voltage is 240 which is where it should be.
Resistance is between 4.4 - 4.3 which the manual says is ok.
Continuity is OK according to the multimeter, in other words the multimeter buzzed.
I also measured diodes not knowing what that means but it came up OK. The manual says it should be 0.5 - 0.8, mine was 0.5.

So I'm stumped! I have the right voltage and everything else looks good. And I know my A/C is ok. Why won't it work?

I need to put 2 ceiling fans in my living room, there is no power running to the ceiling, so I would need to figure out how to run a switch and wire the fans. Also, I need to install an outlet in a bathroom. So any help, or even a step 1, 2, 3 etc would be great. I have a circuit breaker box in the basement, no available breakers, but I am guessing with these low pressure things, I would not need new circuits:? Let me know, Thank You

I have a 10" compound miter saw and I am wondering if you can buy a blade and make it into a cut off saw or if there is a way to convert it. Also- can a miter saw cut metal pipes?

While remodeling, one electrical outlet did not get moved as planned and is now behind the range about four inches in from the left. You can see about the top inch of the outlet over the top of the range. Obviously, this looks stupid and it is not useable in its current position. I don't particularly want to start opening up the drywall and mudding again (I'm SO done with that). I'm also not opposed to calling an electrician to do the work instead of trying to convince hubby to do it (at this point, he is also tired of the remodeling and just wants to tile the backsplash right over the top of the outlet hole -- but I could really use that outlet in the counter area). How difficult is it to relocate an outlet about a foot (there would be a stud between the two locations). Also, can it be done without taking out a big hunk of drywall?

or will it just fall out? they are smaller sized and it would just be temporary... I dont want to mount it to anything-my guy has a fit when I install things he puts off and will say its wrong no matter how I do it- so I want some cold air without causing any permanent damage-can I just put it in,it has window tracks that seem like they would hold.

The shower is leaking around the edges of tile....bad caulking and grout job. That being said, at what point should the subflooring be replaced? While under the house, the wood was soft as I located where it was dripping. Since that time, we have quit using the shower in hopes of it drying out some, but not sure if this is the best course of action. How soft is too soft, and if I replace the grout/caulk and don't replace the floor...how long should I wait to turn shower back on and go under house again to check for leaks while my wife is running the shower?

Thanks for any responses.

The switch can either operate the fan timer directly (240v ac) or via a 12v dc supply.

I picked up a motion sensor from the store, opened it expecting to see a normal electrical plug on the end and found a bunch of wires instead. The instructions (for easy install! haha) keep talking about removing the existing light. There are no instructions if you didn't have a light there before. So two parts to this question - 1. do they make a kind that has a normal plug on it? and 2. how much should I expect to pay an electrician to install the one I have?

We just bought a home and it needs gutters (there aren't any). we have gotten pricing to have it done but it is outrageous. I need to know what all we need besides the gutters, down spouts & nails. And how hard is it to do it ourselves? I'v been to Lowe's and know they have what I need but want to know more info.

Tried to turn on my wall A/C but it would not work. I thought it was dead (old unit), so I brought in another (almost new). It doesn't work either. I thought it might be the receptacle so I threw the breaker and started to remove that. I saw some sparks and the breaker went off when I accidentally touched metal-to-metal (turns out I had thrown the wrong breaker) so I know there's power in the box . Next I threw the right breaker, switched out the receptacle and it still does not work. No changes have been made to my wiring since I last ran the A/C last summer. The only electrical "event" was when Con Ed was working in the street a few months ago and my house's power went off. Half came back on and I realized that they had left so they had to come back. I recall them saying they had to "bridge" something. They fixed the problem and all my power was on but I didn't test the A/C at the time. But now two of the A/Cs on 20 amp circuits (240v) are dead. Should I call Con Ed or an electrician
