Our old house has stairs that are cracked. I think they are supported good enough but need the top boards replaced. I just don't know how to do this - what type of things we will need or how can we do this ourselves? Any hints or tips?

We just removed wallpaper from a hall and found alot of bad walls. The area will be hard to fix with drywall and we really think patching would be harder. I thought of using the same thing as used to texture ceiling on the walls. But I don't know what the stuff is called that is used on the ceiling. Can someone tell me? Also I don't know what kind of design will work that won't be too rough or stucco like. Any suggestions?

I'm investigating the feasability of installing a grid tie-in home wind generator. Has anyone here installed one of these systems into their home's power system?

It's my understanding that you can install a new power meter to allow for "net metering" or reversing of the numbers by the created power from the generator, thereby saving money or reducing your monthly power bill.

The carport is attached to my home, roofed over and has a short brick wall on the back half and full outter side. There are 3 wrought iron pillars on the side wall, not sure if they are support pillars or decorative. There is no brick on the front side but I would like to be able to place a door in the center somehow as well. Any ideas out there??

I recently tiled my bathroom walls and I made a mess with the mastic. I've tried scraping the left overs and I am damaging the drywall.

I would like the double the depth so instead of it being 3ft, it would be 6ft. Would this be possible and how would I do it?

Thanks in advance!

I moved to Italy and bought an apartment. The houses here aren't insulted like in the U.S. They have brick walls and plaster; that's it. My bedroom which has one outside wall gets kind of cold in the winter. I have new windows and the cold doesn't enter through them. The whole wall just gets pretty cold. I was thinking about covering that wall with drywall. Between the two, I want to put a sheet of material which is about 1/8th of an inch thick. One side seems to be of aluminum and the other a spongy type material. I think this is normally used when putting in a parquet floor (between the sub-floor and the parquet).

Do you think this might work and make my room at least a couple of degrees warmer? Also can I attach the drywall directly to the wall using screws and anchors or should I put up studs like in the good ol' USA?

Recently, when I moved I accidentally took a small chunk of wood out of the top of my desk. Is there a way I can patch this? I am completely clueless when it comes to things like this. . . so any simple suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you in advance to everyone who answered :o)

Anyone got any words of wisdom/advice regarding costs etc to buy a wooden framed house kit for self build. I realise that there must be hundreds of various styles to choose from but just for an idea on costs say a reasonable looking 4/5 bed house. How much to buy the kit & how much is possible for an average keen handy diy'er to do?

I've been asked to carve a sign for a business near Seattle. The wood would have to withstand our rain and wind. Would Cedar work, or is there something better? and what would I finish it with?
