I have a combined living and dining room area. Does anyone know how to separate the areas? I am interested in separating these areas with a wall, partition, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to use furniture to separate the area. I want the dining room are to be more private.

Putting up a wall is relatively inexpensive. Some 2 x 4's and sheetrock. If you do it yourself it will be cheaper. Check out diynet.com, on framing a wall. It will tell you everything you need for supplies and how to do it.

you could have a wall installed if you want the room to be totally separated. you could also put up a wallscreen. or you could try installing sliding doors (on either wall that meet in the middle; try different styles.) another way to make it feel more seperate is by having different floors, like the living room carpet and the dining room hardwood.

I have one long room that is living room and dining room. I wanted 2 separate rooms, but didn't want to partition them so much that were little compartments.
My decor style is Japanese/Indonesian, (I live in Asia) I got a 3 panel room divider made of bamboo. It separates the rooms nicely without compartmentalizing. It looks great, every one who has seen it just loves it.

There are many types of room dividers, that don't have to be Asian.

Good Luck!

build a pony wall, it's like a 3 1/2 to 4ft high wall that seperates the dining and living area.

You can get a room screen! You see them a lot in movies, people get dressed behind them. For a nice family touch, there are some that can hold photos. Or you can go with a wood and cloth one, and if you happen to have artistic talent, then you can add some designs of your own onto them. Good luck!

It would be best if you put a wall or curtain between the 2 rooms so they will be separated.

You can use columns to separate the areas. Saw a good program on Ron Hazeltons show on this topic. Check his web site.

How about a combination of things like a book shelf, some tall and short plants, and maybe some type of art sculpture or privacy screen

You should try one of those portable walls. They fold up. I don't know the name of them. They kinda look like the ones you see in old movies, they used to get dressed behind them. There are a lot of really cool fashionable ones out there. A lot of a kinda Asian design to them.
