you are going to need a square of shingles wether it be architectural (3 or 4 bundles depending on the manufaturer), three tabs(three, bundles) or shakes(four bundles)because as everyone has already told you your roof is 64 sq ft and there is 66.66 sq ft in two bundles and that would be closer than I would like to leave myself in the waste department, what everyone failed to mention was the fact that you will also need another 8 lineal feet of shigles (which works out to about 4 sq ft)for your starter course, these singles go on the bottom of the roof upside down the packages of shingles will tell you that though, so on top of the 64 sq ft you'll need approximately 4 sq ft, which puts you at 68 sq ft
i'm guessing you have already figured this out but hope it helped some

Shingles On Foot

2016-10-05 02:35:04 · answer #4 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Shingles are sold by the Square. There is a 100 square ft in a square. Your roof is 8 x 8 = 64 sq ft. So it will take about 2/3 of a square. You will need a few extra so buy a square of shingles that will be plenty. cost around 30 to 50 dollars a square.

Generally, shingles are packaged and sold by "bundles" at Home Depot/Lowes/OSH, etc.

A bundle of 3-tab shingles will cover about 33 square feet and can range around $15.00 per bundle.

Your roof size is 8x8 or 64 square feet, so you will need at least 2 bundles.

2 bundles of shingles should do it for you. There are 100 sq ft in a square of shingles which takes three bundles to make 1 square. 100 divided be three is 33.33sq ft per bundle and an
8x8 roof (providing you are measuring the roof area) is 64 sq ft which ther is 66.66 sq ft in two bundles of shingles

do not use the first suggestion as a formula. it does not account for any over lap. the guys telling you that 3 bundles will cover a square are partially correct, if your using standard 3 tab shingles.
the newer architectural shingles require 4 bundles per square.
then there's wood shingles, and the choices go on and on.
go to your building center, read the packages, and ask some questions.

One square of shingles covers 100 square feet. A square comes in three bundles. 8 X 8 = 64 square feet to be covered. Two bundles will cover 66.6 square feet. Calling it close with 2 bundles........I'd buy a square and keep spare shingles in the garage.
