You may scorch the gold in the process and then your two rings will not look good. Have a look at copper pipes when they have been soldered and you will often see black discolorations near the solder joints.

I'd recommend bringing the rings to a jeweller for suggestions.

Gold requires a higher temperature and a special solder. You can't use lead solder successfully. Go on line and search for gold soldering; it should give you tips. The best thing is to go to a jeweler who does gold repair

I don't know where you live but in most areas you have to have a jewelers license to melt gold for anything.
