Ive replaced the standard white plug sockets and light switches in my house with Metal ones. The problem is now I can feel a very small amount of current (like licking a 9vot batt) I have earthed all of them following the instructions provided. The wiring is 3 core Red, Black, Earth in my house. Ive also got the earth running from the socket face to the box it fits into.
The problem is only on one socket in the kitchen and the light switch (do I need to keep everyting off and call someone out?)

Im in the uk

The system in the house was a boiler, hot water tank and water tank in the loft. The shower is behind the tiles with a round fitting poking through the tiles, with a silver trim. You turn the main dial for water and has an inner dial for water temp. The hot and cold feed must go into the back of it to mix.

The boiler system has been changed to a combi and where the tank was, the two pipes to the shower poke through an thus plumbed to the new system. So the shower unit has not been touched.

As from that day, turning the shower dial has become very stiff. Is this because the shower is not compatible with a combi system?

Hi all...

I live in the U.S., but watch quite a bit of home improvement shows on BBC America. I have a few of questions about the architecture that I see...

Why do your internal doors open to the wall? Here, the doors open into the room, so the door is flush with the wall when you open it 90 degrees. It seems much more convenient than having to open the door to 120 degrees, or so, in order to just walk into the room. Is there a history behind it, or a logical explanation?

Why does every room have a fireplace? It seems most of the homes have radiators, as well, so I don't think it's for heating. Also, it seems that these fireplaces take up a bunch of space within the room, and are almost always centered on the wall with nothing done to the space on either side, which means that there is a bit of unusable space in each room.

My dad had one of these"sticks" . They had inches carved on them like a ruler and you would stick it in the oil tank and it would measure the amount of inches left in the tank.
It's just like a big ruler.

I remember 10 inches was approximatly 50 gallons .
If any one knows where I can purchase one please reply here. Thanks

What else can I use to keep the theme. I am finding it very hard to get the impression of a candy tree when you first see it. I need more decorations. Right now I have candy cane fabric bows - dough cookies that are painted red and white - candy canes - a few sparse decorations that look like candies - snowflakes made out of gumdrops - and that's it......any other ideas?? Looking for mostly red and white....
Thanks

We are thinking of buying a house which is next to a river. We have eliminated flood as a risk - but what are the other hazards? We have small kids so we need to protect them. Are there any health issues? Building issues etc?

I need to find several small flower vases, and by several i mean about 48. They don't have to be very pretty or anything expensive, in fact the cheaper the better! Any ideas? Or suggestions for websites or alternatives? I need them for my wedding for the reception tables. They only need to fit about 3 to 4 flowers.

I get some jars that soak in dishwater and the labels and glue slide right off. Some take a little elbow grease. I'm cool with that. But some come with a glue that seems to become even stronger the more I soak and the more I scrub. There MUST be some chemical or cleaning solution to get that kind of glue off. It's especially common on plastic jars. I have also tried soak the glue with glass cleaner, kitchen cleaner, and have even tried oven cleaner. Please help. I HATE to throw jars in the landfill.

I left a garbage bag on the porch that had the left over cooking oil from when I made fried chicken. Well, something got into it and the oil spilled on the porch and I mean spilled. How do I get it up? Also, I read about some products, but they speak of having "sealed" concrete. How do I know if it is sealed? I am so upset, please give me some good advice

Hi
I live in a Loft Building. I am on the last floor (4) and I have a pipe which takes the water from the roof coming through my room and going all the way down to the bottom of the building. The roof has been repaired and all the leaks as well but everytime it rains or snow the entire pipe get a large amount of condensation. I read about lots of different solutions to the problem like insulation blankets, etc However the pipe is partially resting on one of the walls so wrapping around it currently is impossible. I have build a wooden cover to go on top of it just for now so I avoid any of the books close by getting watter but I would like to figure out a solution like some sort of water resistant foam to spray inside the cover so it "wrapes around " the pipe or maybe some special foil? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you

PS In some other forums I was told to use some sort of a neoprene pipe insulation but I haven't been able to find any

Our backyard is open with a line of trees and people walk their dogs or dogs get loose between the houses and have decided to use our backyard / side grassy areas as a convenient toilet. Are there products available (or natural remedies) that don't harm animals (like dogs, cats etc), but that they don't like the smell of, that will keep them off our garden?

I'm moving to a new apartment this month and I need ideas for decorating. The kitchen appliances are both black and white. The fridge is white, the stove is black and white, the microwave is black and so is the dishwasher. The cabinets are white and wood and the countertops are white. What colors would look good? I'm trying to get ahead on some ideas for colors and themes.

Heres the basics.

Went to turn up the t-stat..Nothing kicked on.

Went to the furnace and hit the reset button. The pump ran for about 15 seconds and shut off. (nothing fired or anything).

The reset button stayed down, and is acting normal. If I pull the lever the button pops up. Pushing it again does nothing. Nothing turns on / makes any noises. But the red light turns off.

It looks like the t-stat isnt getting any voltage. Jumping the t-stat wires at the t-stat or at the burner does nothing.

Plugged a lamp into the outlet used by the furnace to make sure its getting adequate juice..Its fine.

Im wondering if the honeywell primary control isnt working right. ITs not sending power to anything. I pulled it off. All the wire connections inside look fine.

Heres a place with a pic and more info:

And yes, before someone asks - it has oil, everything on the oil side is fine.

Something is wrong with my plumbing but I am not sure what. My husband said it may be our "stump-pump." There is NO QUESTION that I will have to have the problem corrected and sewage taken out from under my house.

I don't know what to ask them about services, costs, certification and so on. Any ideas would be helpful.
