The most important thing to me is that it isn't the SAME as everyone else's. That doesn't mean I'd design it crazy, just not cookie cutter.

I don't know if you mean you're designing the house itself or the interior decorating...

If it's the house itself, I'd avoid this popular style I'm seeing everywhere - with the complex roof and giant window over the front door, etc. I would design a house that looked like an old southern mansion, complete with full-length, two story front porches, columns, and lots of doors leading out onto the porches. I'd follow those old homes' plans as closely as I could because I love the romance they portray.

If it was the interior that I was designing, it would depend on the room. I want a formal living room with classic furniture - a tea table (not coffee table), camelback davenport, wing chairs, tailored draperies, a well appointed fireplace, etc.

My kitchen would be comfortable with a VERY SLIGHT mediterranian feel. nothing over the top. And a dining room with a big rectangular table and pretty and sturdy chairs.

My house would also have a rec room or den that would be much more "livable" than the living room - with a regular size couch or sectional - none of the oversized stuff - I think it makes rooms look too small... and a TV that could be hidden - whether in a cupboard or behind a picture or something. warm colors and a ceiling fan.

Ideally, it would be BIG- with a nice large kitchen, plenty of storage, and a lot of stone, brick, and wood in it.

It would be computer ready, and come with an independent power supply (such as solar power) so I wouldn't have to fret over the grid going down- Read Hurricane Isabelle here!

It would have a sun room to let heat and light into the house in winter, and so I could grow plants inside.

It would have a room set up especially for my kitties if for some reason I should have to close one or both of them off from the rest of the house.

And yes, I am rather enamored of the idea of having my very own basement and attic.
