Hi. We have old carpet in all of our 3 bedrooms and want to replace it with laminate or real wood floor. We will probably be moving within the next year or two and have two children. Which would you recommend?

When I applied the new paint, it won't stick and is peeling. It seems there is some kind of rubbery residue there. How can I fix this so I can paint and it doesn't bubble and look a mess? I thought this seemed too easy to just wet it and scrape it. :(

When we paint a room we usually paint the ceiling first then we go to paint the walls. I have been decorating and chose different colors for the walls but all the ceilings are white.

No matter what trimmer or brush we use we almost always end up slopping the edges and getting some color on the ceiling. then we have to wait for it to dry and go back and touch up.
Are we doing something wrong? What is the best way to get a clean edge ? We use painters tape for the trim work but I never heard of anyone using it for the entire ceiling.

One section in my kitchen sink drain has come completely away from another. My dad previously installed a garbage disposal and he may have replaced this pipe at that time. I'm not sure if it is too short. These pieces are threaded at the ends and connected with the attached nuts and there is a plastic washed that I can't quite figure out where it's supposed to be. Can I just try and fit them back together and tighten the nut, or should there be an adhesive with this type of joint?

I want to paint my computer desk, but it is not an expensive one. It is most likely partical board, with fake wood siding on it. Part of it is black, and other parts are faux wood (a light colour). It is fairly old, but I am not in a position to get a new one right now, so I want to paint it, but I'm not sure what colour yet.

Is there anything special that I should be doing in order for the paint to adhere? Will it work, or will it look really bad?

I am wondering if I can leave after shave, perfume, alcohol (beer?) in our house without heat. We will get temperatures below zero as well as below freezing outside. We will be back when the weather is quite warm so it will thaw for sure. What things must I absolutely remove? What about shampoos, household spray cleaners, bleach, toilet bowl cleaner ....please let me know every liquid or gel you think I can leave and every one I should remove!

I've had very limited success with hover-mowers, and metal bladed rotary mowers.
I've never tried a cylinder mower, but I suspect it would be better able to handle the tough conditions of my back garden.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have a bathroom in my bedroom. My little sister was in my room playing on the computer and had to use the bathroom. Well, she didnt realize that I was out of toilet paper. She found a roll of paper towles under the sink (I use them to clean) and used one of them.

The problem is that our toilets are VERY sensitive. This happened 2 days ago. Their is nothing visablly stuck in the toilet (I plunged it and it went down) but the water still wont go down when we flush. It rises to the top and I have to turn the knob to shut the water off before the toilet over flows. After i shut the water off, i go away for about an hour, the water slowly drains from the toilet..and then i turn the water back on - let it fill up, and try flushing it again. I'm assuming that the paper towel got cloged somwhere further down than what I can see.

I dont want to tell my mom quite yet becuase my step-dad will yell at both my sister and I. (I'm 20 years old, shes 6). How can I avoid needing a plummer?

I moved into my new flat just over a week ago and I've noticed a silly amount of wood lice appear to have set up home in my kitchen and bathroom. I'd be happy for them to stay if they paid some rent but as they arn't I need a solution for getting rid of them.

Any thoughts?

I am going to install self stick tiles over linoleum and I have a few spots that need filled. I was wondering if drywall joint compound would work to fill in the small gaps. The room where the tiles are being installed is a bathroom.
