if it is because of the paint open some windows and let it air out. otherwise if it's like a carpet smell... get it steam cleaned. by renting from a store or having a company come in.

if the smell was there before the paint was done maybe you have a water leak or some sort that has soiled the wood/wall and covering it up with paint didn't make it better.

find the source then deal with the issue.

Real Vanilla Extract has always worked for me when the room smells of paint, all you do is just saturate cotton balls with the vanilla extract put in some containers and leave a few of these containers containing the vanilla extract cotton balls around the room for several hours or over night close all doors if possible then open up some windows and air out your room will once again smell fresh without the paint odor, I will also give you a tip for next time you paint your home, in order to stave off the paint odor place a cut onion side up in the room on a plate it will absorb the paint odors while you are painting or you can simply use the vanilla extract method I have already told you about but this time place them in while you paint or you can put a few drops of vanilla extract in the paint this will stop the paint odor and make the paint smell nice but will not change the color of the paint. Or use this solution Neutralize the smell of fresh paint

If you would rather not have the unpleasant smell of fresh paint in your house, mix 1 tablespoon vanilla extract into the paint can when you open it. The house will smell delicious!
Good Luck !

Onion answer was great! You can also buy baking soda and open the boxes on the large side and set them around the room with the onions. In a day or so your paint smell should be gone. Baking soda reduces refrigerator smells also....

Little to do but open the room up and air-it-out !!

WHEN you paint, there is a little trick you can use with latex interior paints:

Put a teaspoon of vanilla extract, peppermint oil, or cinnamon oil into each gallon of house-paint. It cuts away the "latex" smell that fills the room !!

I perfer to use the peppermint oil

Paint smells. Slice an onion in half and leave it sliced sides uppermost, in the room. It will absorb much of the smell.
