I'm starting to have a snail problem in my backyard. Especially around my vegetables. I don't want to use pesticides. I heard that there are plants that if when snails eat them they don't like the taste or it'll kill them. Do those plants exist and what are they?

My house is frame construction 12 years old in excellent condition except I am going to need a new roof soon and I like tile better than shingles. What are the requirements for support. Is this possible?

I read that there should be at least 5-10 earthworms in every spadeful of dirt you shovel in your garden. When I checked in my garden, it was more like 2-3, so I feel like something's wrong.

The soil itself seems pretty well-conditioned. It's got more sand in it, so it breathes better than the usual clay soil found in my area. It holds moisture pretty well too.

I mixed in some decomposed cow manure into the soil so far, but have not amended it otherwise. I have a compost bin full of half-rotten compost, but it might not be ready until a while longer (say, 3-6 months).

There's a bait shop down the road where I could buy worms, but I'd rather try to figure a way to create the right conditions for them to live in. Healthy soil, I'm told, is full of worms.

Is there a fine rock that I can place into my driveway... with water added have it turn into a hard substance... (seen something like this on tv before...) - Anyway... any suggestions on doing a reasonable priced driveway would be appreciated. I just bought this house... I don't have that much $ to work with and right now all I have is a packed dirt driveway and I'm tired of the mess! - Thanks

Using ONLY supplies from Home Depot or Lowe's, is it realistic, or even possible for two people, using only their hands, a truck, and a floor plan, to construct an entire house by themselves? If so, what will the cost be compared to buying the house already made?

My daughter wants a 6' chain link fence around her back garden. There is already a 3' one with 3' concrete posts. Please can anyone tell me the best, easiest and cheapest way of erecting the new fence. I've seen concrete and wooden posts, but was thinking something more like the metal post you see in parks. Any suggestions please?

I want to start a garden and possibly grow a couple of pumpkins. (I have a 2.5 year old that loves them). I've heard that growing pumpkins is difficult. I live in New England and I've also heard that it's easier here then in other parts of the country. Anyone have any advice on whether or not I should bother with it.

My wife has an old dressor that is a family heirloom. She doesn't want to restore it without knowing it won't effect its value (a matter of originallity). It has come apart a bit and is in need of restoration. Can I just glue it back together with clamps, sand it down and throw a clear coat finish on it?

How can I fix this so that flap inside stays open long enough for the toilet bowl to flush fully?

I got too excited about my first attempt at gardening and now the notoriously unpredictable weather in Oklahoma threatens to kill my plants.

I planted mostly herbs along with some strawberry, cayenne pepper and beefsteak tomato plants.

The strawberry plants and most of the herbs are fine, but some of the leaves on the basil, pepper and tomato plants are turning mushy and/or brown or black. I have covered them with buckets and bowls from the house to protect them from the cold, but they still look damaged.

All told, there have been three full days of cold temperatures and this is the fourth. It may be another day until temperatures return to normal. Is there any reason to believe that some or all of my plants will recover from this, or am I totally screwed?

Note: So far there's no serious damage to the stems, just the some of the leaves near the tops of the plants don't look so good.

I moved into a townhouse in October. In the last three days there has been this very loud vibration behind the walls it seems. It shakes the walls and everything. It is getting louder and going longer. When you turn on the faucet or flush the toilet it goes away until you turn on water again. The upstair toilet now runs alot more and longer than it used to. Being my first house, I have no idea what this is or how to fix it. I have a 1 year warranty on the house, but I have $100 dedutable. HELP ME.... it is very loud and disturbing.

I was kust wondering what the best food for Bonsai is and how do you keep the trees small if you take a cutting etc do you trim the roots and prune the tree to stunt its growth?

Also if I take a cutting from my Bonsai do I need to seal the wound up with something?

When my tub was installed grout was used to seal the tub and ceramic tiles together. Today that grouted seam is beginning to crack and crumble and needs to be repaired, replaced, and/or corrected. What should I do? I have been told by a friend that grout should never have been used to seal that area in the tiling process and that the grout needs to be scraped out and the seal made new with a caulking compound. Is this correct and if so, what caulking compound is best suited for this? I noticed also that the grout around the shower window is not properly sealed and needs to be corrected as well. Can I simply add more grout to this area for a satisfactory fix?
