My house is frame construction 12 years old in excellent condition except I am going to need a new roof soon and I like tile better than shingles. What are the requirements for support.

Sure you can. If you hire a contractor to do the job, they will inspect tell you if you need extra support for whichever tiles you pick out. If you do it yourself, at least get a contractors opinion or an estimate that way you can get some free info before starting the job.

You may want to look at the new types of metal roofing. They make one that looks like tile. Even have them that look like slate and other materials. This would not require extra supports to be installed.
