I'm fairly sick and tired of being told I shouldn't do carpentry or drywall or the like because I'm a female. What are your opinions on the 'fairer' sex taking on any type of construction?

I live in an older appartment building in Ontario Canada. My tap water smells and tastes bad. I'm sure it's because the pipes are molding or decomposing. I bought a Brita tap filter which is great for drinking water but is not made for use with hot water. This causes a big problem when washing dishes. I can't have a dishwasher. I usually boil my dish water before use but this takes so long it really turns the job into a chore. What can I do (somewhat cheaply) to fix my water? And no, moving is not an option.

My washing machine broke down this week, so my wife and I had to trudge down to our local laundromat (this was actually kind of fun - we had the whole place to ourselves and we brought snacks!). We noticed that two of the machines cost extra ($3 instead of $1.50) but were labeled 'triple loaders'. My wife immediately got excited thinking she could finally clean our duvets (our machine at home is too small for them). When we looked at the insides, however, they didn't seem to be any bigger than the regular machines.

What's the difference between a regular, a double loader and a triple loader?

I have 4 outside 110v a/c lights installed in cement posts. They are all on the same circuit. Each runs from an outside plug to the individual light. The bulb in the last one in the series keeps going out after about 1/2 hour. This baffles me; I have changed the socket but it still happens. What would make a bulb continually go out after 1/2 hour? Obviously there is no surge because the others don't go out. Could the wire in the cement post have a slight short & is heating up and this causes the bulb to go out?

my wife and i are about to pay 170,000 for a brand new house. the problem is that the builder installed hard wood floors and some of the boards are cupped. the floor has been down since june and the builder is telling us that the floor manufacture told him to run a dehumidifier and within 6 weeks or so the floor will correct itself. the problem the builder told us is that the floor was installed before the heat/air was installed ,so there was no way to control the temp in the house.im willing to fork out the money if the floor is really gonna corect itself. can anyone give me any advice?

Over the past 24 hours, the right fuse (of two 15 amp fuses) has blown on the electric water heater. I repalced first time with old but unused 15 amp fuse, then same again today.
There is no hot water whatsoever when one fuse blows.

Over the past two days, we have done loads of laundry at HOT/Cold setting, which does use lots of hot water, but we have done the same many times over the past year.

Water heater is maybe 5 years old? Rental.

Any suspicions as to the cause?

I recently just painted a plastic surface with spraypaint specifically designed for plastic (primer and color). Now I want to make this last because from experience I know that spraypaint can fade from use and can chip/flake away.

What can I specifically use to keep this new paint like new?
