It means the crops were grown without the use of conventional pesticides, artificial fertilizers or sewage sludge, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives. DUH! lol :o)

In Chemistry organic means Carbon containing Molecule. In biology organic means anything that is or was living. In Agriculture organic means any produce or livestock fed only organic produce grown without the use of synthetic (man-made) chemicals. The USDA mandated several years ago that to use the word organic on the packaging of food sold in the USA it must conform to certain guidelines regarding production techniques. If you use synthetic chemicals in your home garden then the food you grow is not organically grown, but if you do not use synthetic chemicals then there is little difference between a commercially available product bearing the label "USDA Certified Organic" and what is grown in your garden.

The original meaning of organic means plant or animal mattar. That is, growing things.
Organic as in Organic eggs, beef, vegetables etc refers to things that have been grown in an environmentally friendly way.
There are different standards to this, but it would generally mean without pesticides. For example, organic eggs come from chickens that have been feed organic chicken feed. More and more often, without Genetic Modification.
There are various standards organisations around the world which can certify a product as organic.

unfortunately for the consumer, there is not good legislation in place that would stop a producer or retailer from using the term to imply that the product is somehow better or purer or cleaner than its competition. so for once and for all, consumers, know this: the word "organic" ONLY means "something that is or once was living and growing" and this applies to all animals and vegetables. therefore, ANY carrot or onion or potato or whatever IS organic, no matter where or how it was grown. dont be mislead by the free use of the term.

Organic means "natural". Organically grown fruit is fruit that was cultivated without any use of chemicals, etc. Your vegetables grown out in the backyard could be called organic.
