My girlfriend is arriving by bus tomorrow, and I want to give her a rose when she gets here. I won't have time to get one in the morning, so I'll have to buy it tonight. I want it to look bright and fresh when I give it to her, as if I had purchased it moments before. What can I do to keep it fresh? Any additional advice for when I'm sitting around at the bust station after the hour ride there would also help.

I viewed a house yesterday and loved it structurally ... 1 problem, it seems that the old lady who used to own it may have had problems getting to the toilet on time and downstairs the house really smelly. The carpet has already been removed.

Any ideas on how I could get rid of the smell if i go ahead and buy the property?

I'm trying to see how long a mains (240v) Halogen Heater will run for from a Car battery (not connected to engine, just standalone). I want to use an Inverter connected to the car battery which will convert 12volts to 240volts to power the heater. The Inverter is rated at 600watts, and the Heater is 400watts, so how long will it run for before going flat? Anyone help do the maths/theory for me?

New bathroom fitted recently, mixer telephone tap put on the bath. Hot tap has never rung as fast as the cold, but this morning it has gone to a trickle. No muck in tap and washer is fine. Pipe work is three quarter inch. Our combination boiler makes an odd noise when the tap is run. Basin and kitchen taps are fine, and the boiler sounds normal when they are run. Any ideas?

I have bare light bulbs fitted on the walls. It looks like I can buy shades that are just screwed on between the bulb and its base since there are no drill marks on the walls and a piece comes off that seems to leave space for a shade. There is no name or make on the lights and I can't find anything on the internet. I wonder if anyone has anything similar in their homes and could help?

I have a 24x24x8 garage, walls insulated-no sheetrock. Ceiling insulated, insulated doors.

My hope is to be able to heat my garage so it is warm enough to do hobby work, and play with my children.

In Massachusetts, so the temp can get pretty low. I might need to raise the temperature by 30 or 40 deg.

I want the cost to be reasonable, for example, less than $300 preferably, unless there is a good reason or advantage where I can justify it.

I do not have natural gas and do not want a 100lb LP tank outside.

It needs to be reasonably sized, for example maybe 2'x2' max. Ideally it would be portable so in the summer I can store it somewhere else.

So far in my research I am leaning towards a Kerosene heater, due to the size, price, btu's, portability, etc. I am not sure if there are any safety or legal concerns.

Propane might work, but I believe I have to run a line to the outside even with a 20lb tank legally and safely.

Thanks so much.
