I called the dry cleaners and they want $35. to dry clean a down comforter. Is there any other way I can wash it? Can I put it in the regular washing machine on a gentle cycle?

yes you can wash it that way. The biggest problem is that the comforter will be too large for your washer and may cause it to be unbalanced. I would take it to a laundromat with the oversized washers, and then use gentle cycle, woolite, and coolor warm water.

And when you dry it, put tennis shoes in the dryer to plump up the wet down. I wash mine with the regular wash cycle.

dry cleaning is expensive.
but you need to professionally clean your down comforter once a year so that it won't smell.
you can try the dry cleaning pads that you just toss inside the dryer.
they are available in you grocery stores.
make sure to have a duvet cover so that it will stay clean.
good luck
