I have an ingrown toenail that resulted in a cut in my big toe. It's been there about a month and won't heal because the part of the nail you can't remove is poking into it. As such, my entire toe is now swollen.
I noticed this morning that my foot and shin are of a significantly higher temperature than the noninfected side. There isn't much pain. I've put neosporin on the cut a few times, but it seems to do little. It doesn't seem to be getting worse very quickly, either.
So. I don't care much about being on the 'safe side'. I want to know at what point do I NEED to see a doctor? I have no insurance, so I'd like to avoid a pricey/violent visit. Should I just keep using peroxide and neosporin and hope for the best? I've been considering using a poultice of comfrey (knitbone), is this advisable for an open wound?
Thanks.
