Can anyone point to the data which supports that screening should start at age 50? I don't understand why not 40 or 30 say. Curious numerically how they came up with that.

Even though knowledge of cancer is more widespread than before, I have noticed that many people still do not have regular health check-ups, do routine breast or testicular exams, follow-up on suspicious skin changes, or other early symptoms. Why do you think this is so? Or do you disagree with my observation? Explain.

My Grandmother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Sunday. She was severly jaundiced (not sure if I spelled it right). She had surgery this afternoon, called a bypass,(not related to the heart bypass). She was not a candidate for the whipple surgery, nor chemo or radiation. she is 90 years old. My father is being very vague about the time she has left, although i haven't come right out to ask, i have danced around it, he knows what i am trying to ask. All he said is that the doctor is optomistic. All the reasearch that I have done on this type of cancer said that the median range of survival for this, and this type of surgery giving her only comfort measures that it is only about 6 months. Anyone have any information to help. Thanks so much.l

My best friend has lung cancer. I've been doing all kinds of things trying to help like being there when he needs to talk, work around his house and stay possitive with his wife and kids. He did go throught all the treatments imaginable so far and nothing seems to work!!!
Is there some food that he can eat that may or can make a difference?

There is a lot more money in treating cancer than in curing cancer. Every major hospital has a cancer ward. What would happen to these hospitals if a cure for cancer was discovered? What if drug companies could no longer sell chemotherapy or radiation drugs? Other illnesses fall into this category too. Countless millions have been raised for muscular dystrophy but still there is no cure. What would happen to all the clinics if a cure was discovered? Same with MS, Parkinson's, heart disease, diabetes, etc.

A friend of mine is 4 months pregnant and just found out she has breast cancer. She's 30 years old.
She refuses to abort the baby to have the chemo done, so the doctors are going to give her the treatment while she's still pregnant. And apparently they told her that it shouldn't harm the baby because she's so far along already.

I don't think she made the right choice, and I think the doctors are lying to her.

Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you decide?

What can I say to her to support her even though I think she's making the wrong choice?

After the baby is born she's going to have a mastectomy. They are going to give her 6 more weeks until the c-section.

At the very end,the day before she died, the nurse was able to see the signs that it was very very soon. My father was left some type of a patch to put on my mother only when told to. She explained what signs he would see and then to call the nurse. When this time came and he called her, my father was told it was only a matter of less than hours now before she would die. He was to put this patch on my mother (she was unconscious at this point). He said within 20 minutes she was gone, just slipped away in her sleeplike state. I'm wondering if anyone knows what might have been in this patch? I wondered if it was like when you take your pet to be put to sleep, maybe it just slowed everything down for nature to do its finaly job faster. Just curious. I didn't want to ask my father, i know he didn't know and never saw the nurses again. It was so peaceful.

I would like to hear from people who saw their cancer disappear and left their doctors with question marks. I'm not taking into account the usual medical treatment like chemotherapy. What are your thoughts on how u got cured, do you have a personal explenation? Was there any religious intervention, a self)treatment perhaps? things like that....

About ten years or so ago I went to the doctor and asked about Prostate cancer screening. He said I was too young. Besides being over worked under paid and uninsured I have a pain in my scrotum and it feels like I have an 8 ball in between my crotch. I have been doing a lot of heavy lifting and I am exhausted. Everything works fine down there but I am very tired. A friend of mine had kidney cancer and he died shortly afterwards, he complained of being tired. Also my bones hurt. I was thinking that I could have a body infection. Should I be terminated by lethal injection? Getting sick is a sin in this country, I should be punished. Of course I could be over reacting, it has been a terrible week.
