At the very end,the day before she died, the nurse was able to see the signs that it was very very soon. My father was left some type of a patch to put on my mother only when told to. She explained what signs he would see and then to call the nurse. When this time came and he called her, my father was told it was only a matter of less than hours now before she would die. He was to put this patch on my mother (she was unconscious at this point). He said within 20 minutes she was gone, just slipped away in her sleeplike state. I'm wondering if anyone knows what might have been in this patch? I wondered if it was like when you take your pet to be put to sleep, maybe it just slowed everything down for nature to do its finaly job faster. Just curious. I didn't want to ask my father, i know he didn't know and never saw the nurses again. It was so peaceful.

Could have also been Fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid and is about 30 times more potent than morphine. It's use is mainly restricted to oncology/palliative care patients.

First, I am sorry for your loss, I experienced the same thing with my wife 2 years ago. That patch was a Morphine Patch. It keeps them out of pain, and lets them go to sleep, and die peacefully.

Morphine Patch. I am sorry for your loss. I just lost my mom 6 months ago to COPD. I know it's hard right now but the blessing is she is not suffering any more. Thats what gets me through the rough spots.

my husband wore the patch also and he was under hospice care. he had cancer also and passed away asleep just like your mother. i was told the patch was only for the pain and that it had nothing to do with his disease except to take care of his pain so you & your father can feel not guilty as nothing was done to your mom to speed her death. there are opioum and morphine patches god bless

I'm sorry for your loss, but I have no idea what that patch may have been.

Probably morphine, it relieves pain & slows the respiratory system.

Yes as many people have said it is Marphine to relive her from the cruelling pain. Any way I extremely sorry for her. Please accept our condolences. May her soul rest in peace.
