Even though knowledge of cancer is more widespread than before, I have noticed that many people still do not have regular health check-ups, do routine breast or testicular exams, follow-up on suspicious skin changes, or other early symptoms. Why do you think this is so? Or do you disagree with my observation? Explain.

I think that cancer screenings can, in a sense, make people feel disempowered. These cancer programs tout "early detection" as "prevention," which isn't at all true. The only thing that cancer screenings can do is detect cancer that is already present.

Basically, the cancer industry has been doing a lot of advertising lately, reminding people to do monthly self-exams, yearly mammograms, and so forth. To some women, this feels like they're saying... "you're going to get cancer some day. You may even have it right now. I know you feel fine... but there's nothing you can do about except catch it early. After we find it, we'll take off your breasts so that it can't return and pump you full of toxic chemicals that destroy your immune system and make your hair fall out. Who knows... you might still even be alive by the time we're done with you!"

It's horrifying, to say the least. And, I suppose, that most of these people think that as long as they feel healthy, there's no point in putting themselves in the potentially horrifying situation of finding cancer. Ignorance is bliss... don't fix what isn't broken, you know. Besides, the "treatments" they offer are worse than the disease.

And yet... no one teaches true prevention.

Yes you are right. Many people do not get cancer detections tests for reasons known to them only. but as a voluntary worker for Cancer patient I can tell you that the following are the reasons -

1. CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA and people are afraid of even hearing this term not to speak of having it themselves. Due to fear they do not check up.

2. Some avoid it due to lethargic attitude. It is like . OK will get it some time.

3. Some people again out of fear of treatment side effects do not go for check ups.

4. Many people in places like Asian countries do not have sufficient financial resources or insurance covers even for check ups and leave along the treatment expenses.
My suggestion is the Government of all countries should come forward to help everyone to bear expenses or insurance costs.

Because they fall within the cracks I know when I had no health insurance I still according to the law made too much money for the free exam. If I did not use a free exam the Prohibit cost for these test would cause my family to not eat or have a roof over there head.

Some people have the idea "I'm not sick until I'm told that I am" or simply they do not have the insurance and it would just cost to much. My mother in law is the type that doesn't feel every ache and pain requires a medical professionals opinion and sadly last month she was diagnosed with end stage liver cancer. A biopsy indicated it started in her breasts and spread quickly. She has maybe a month of life left and finally my husband realizes how hard it is to lose a parent and is willing to take better care of himself for our children.
