I heard a comercial for a story on the news about a dog with skin cancer that was cured by some kind of vaccine. I don't know the name of the vaccine or whether it was actually skin cancer. Does anyone know anything about this?

Well, vaccines don't cure diseases - they prevent them. It's more accurately called a treatment (although I notice that the news outlets are calling it a vaccine, too).

It's actually a vaccination against another disease that just happens to cause the human immune system to attack melanoma. Sort of a backdoor treatment. Neat idea, too.

I've attached a link.

There are NO known cures for advanced stages of skin cancer. There are some 55 plus vaccines/trials for Melanoma (skin cancer) treatment. If skin cancer is caught early enough, biopsy and excision have a high cure rate. Unfortunately, if left undetected, advance stages, Melanoma can be deadly. There are many different treatment options availible. It depends on the stage and extend of Melanoma Metasitis. (if the Melanoma has spread to lymph nodes/and or other parts of the body.) My Melanoma friends and I would most certainly have heard of this vaccine! You can try asking on the web-site: http:mpip.org. I'm sure that everyone there would be interested in hearing about this...they would most definately check into it for you. They are a group of people diagnosed with higher stages of Melanoma...looking for the "cure".
