I'm in my mid-20's and I just found out my father (mid-50's) has cancer. I don't know how to handle this situation. I have known people whom have had cancer, but that was either when I was very young or they were not relatives of me.

I feel like at my age, I should be able to handle this situation, but I don't know what to do. I'm scared. I've had a pit in my stomach for days. My boyfriend and I have been dating for 3 years, and I can't even tell him what's going on. I can't bring myself to do it. I also don't know how to talk about it. Do I tell my friends? my boss? my professors (i'm in grad school) So that they know, I will be dealing with some pretty serious issue and maybe absent or pre-occupied?

Right now, I want to go out with my boyfriend and tell him in person. But, I feel as though I should be spending time with my dad, even though I feel somewhat uncomfortable in his presences.

Is this a normal way to feel? Am i acting immature for my age?

For the last couple of months I have been coughing up little white chunks and having a little trouble swallowing. My doctor just got the results on my MIR and called to tell me that I need to come back in so we can talk about what they found in my throat. I can't go to the doctor until tomorrow. In the meantime I'm just bawling. If I do have cancer will I get to see my kids grow up and graduate high school or get married?

Sorry about the broadness of this question. If you get told that a lump (size of a pea) in your neck contains cancerous cells, what exactly does this mean? Whats the difference between this and cancer? The person in question is mid 20s... will this reduce risk? It is getting removed soon but how is it known if its spread? Im worried about it but should i be as worried as i am?

-Wants Blood Test, CT Scan of abdomen/pelvis.
-However, did not ask for stool sample
-30 years old, Male
-Family history of col cancer
-Bloating/tightening in stomach
-Left side always, sometimes right as well
-Frequent upset stomach
-Goes away easily with Pepto
-Has gone away for as many as 5 days straight
-Bowel movements have been regular
-Pain is never "unbearable", more "discomfort" than pain, as if I drank some questionable milk
-Have had a few anxiety attacks, may be unrelated
-No vomiting
-Not tied to diet (eat salad - get the bloating, eat McDonalds and dont)

Does anyone with personal or medical experience have anything to offer? If it was the "C" word, would the symptoms be worse and painful? If not, would actually having symptoms mean it's advanced?

My pap smear came back showing I have abnormal cervical cells which can lead to cervical cancer. I had a biopsy today and they said that it seems worse then they thought and I may need treatment. I am scred to death. I dont know what to expect! Also, can this affect me having children in the future?!? They said they would either do the LEEP procedure or another one which I forget what its called but they freeze the cells off. Any info or suggestions or facts anyone has please help! I am only 24!

If so, for how long? Are you taking any medication (Arimidex, Tamoxifen, Lupron, etc.) now? Do you have any lingering or continuuing side effects from your treatment? How are you feeling emotionally?

I hate this illness...I treat as a medical disorder, but other treat it like a disability... I hate being treated different from others... My husband loves me, for who I am... It's a crying shame other family can't do this... :( I have a very mild form of NF 1...

If you want to share thoughts... bnbmom325@aim.com please add your name to the subject line (NF) so I don't delete it... :)

3 years survivor, had to have mastectomy on left breast and then 1 year later reconstruction with implant. I'm doing ok now except sometimes my arm bothers me. What can I do for spasms. It feels as if a muscle is being pulled under my arm pit, more like a "charlie horse" feeling. Is this normal?

They had surgery yesterday, which prolonged their life(They were only given 6mths originally, now because of the surgery they have up to 5 years) but the medical costs are more than they can bear. Are there any charities, foundations, organizations, etc that could help cushion the blow on some of these costs? They aren't famous or anything, but in my little corner of the world they are GREATLY important.

I have got lymph nodes in my groin area that I have not felt before. I noticed them about 6 weeks ago so went along to the Drs to have them checked out. I was suffering with a bad cold/flu type illness at the time and the Doc put it down to a viral infec. I have had lots of other odd symptoms: cold water running sensation through my arms, pins and needles in my hands and feet, dizzy, nausea, feeling of pressure and throbbing under my arms and in my groin. I have had Complete Blood Count, thyroid, liver and kidney function test, inflammation test, diabetes, anemia blood tests and a urine test. Everthing was normal including physical exams of stomach, strength and reflexes. I had a very close friend who died last year after finding a lump under her arm which she soon found out was melanoma cancer that had got to the stage of spread ing to her lymph glands. If I had cancer and it had got to the stage of spreading to my lymph glands would one of the tests I have had show an abnormality?

I'm going to try and keep this short... Back in 2000 my mother found out she had breast cancer, had mastectomy, along with the treatment. For a few years everything was good until Feb. of 2006. She had her routine cat scan and it came back with a golf ball size tumor on her brain. My mother went through the treatment and the Doctor removed that tumor, again all was starting to look good. About 5 weeks ago she had another routine cat scan and again, the tumor was back. This time there is to much and nothing is going to help. The tumor is so large and inside her brain as well as on her brain, it all started from the breast cancer. Now the doctors told her she has terminal cancer and has two months to live. How scared she must be. She can no longer be alone and I set with her everday. This is so overwhelming on me, Lord knows how she must feel. I know all the side affects of terminal brain cancer. Is there anyone who has been through this might be able to give some advice or anything?T
