I am looking for reference material to support that chronic Osteomyelitis can make someone more susceptable to other diseases, such as an enlarged heart. My father suffered from Osteomyelitis for over 15 years before developing an enlarged heart, which ultimately lead to his death at the age of 47. When he died the VA denied my mom widow's benefits because they said the Osteomyelitis did not contribute to his death. I am looking for information to counter the VA's stand. I have always felt that the Osteomyelitis contributed to his death even though it wasn't a direct cause. I need something to back me up so my mom can get benefits.

Within the past week I have noticed a large 'ball', on the upper portion of my armpit. It is very painful and does not seem to get any smaller. I've irritated it and can grab it and pull it away - so it doesn't seem to be attatched to anything. Could this simply be a lymph node that is tacking FOREVER to shrink or could this be a cancerous mass?

* * * How long do lymph nodes take to shrink to normal size?

would it have prevented me from getting it entirely, or greatly reduced the chance? My gyno & I talked about it maybe 5 yrs ago but neither pursued it. I realize hindsight is 20/20, what's done is done but can't help but wonder.

ive been told i have APL. i think the doctor said its a form of AML leukaemia, although i kinda blanked out after she said i have leukaemia. my mum asked alot of questions but i didnt really listen, it wouldnt sink in, ive only just started to realize its true. does anyone know what APL is and what the chances of remission are (i'm 16 and quite healthy, if that helps), has anyone dealt with leukaemia as a teenager. how bad is chemotherapy gonna be. i tried looking online but it didnt say much APL

i'd really appreciate any answers given.

Jeanne Calment is 122+ and she has always smoked and drunk red wine.....so could it be that the 2 habits even each other out medically speaking?

Why does it seem that people who give up smoking get disease whilst those who NEVER quit seem to stay fairly healthy? Just looking at the oldest people on earth and most of them seem to be smokers.....

I heard its uncontagious, so how do you get it? Is there a way to prevent it? And what are the chances of survival if you get it? ( I know it depends, but I mean, try and get a good estimate?)

Would someone survive cancer or AIDS longer? like, which is the worst disease?

And finally, is there a cure for any of the 2 diseases?

Thanks a lot.

For more than two years I have had these two lymph nodes that I can feel on my neck, one right under my ear and one in the middle of my neck probably around the same area as my adam's apple. They have never grown at all, and when I had my doctor check it out (2 weeks ago) he said they were not even enlarged, and that there's nothing to worry about.

A week after that appointment, I found another lump under the skin under my jaw. It is lined up along with the ear, but is located directly underneath the jaw. From what I read, a lymph node is not considered enlarged unless it is bigger than a centimeter. This lump however, is smaller than that. I dont know if it has always been there and I just never noticed, or if it is a recent growth. But it's scaring me.

It is small, round and tender (you can squeeze it and it feels like a rubber ball or something). It doesnt cause any pain, nothing really affecting my movement. This also seems to be attached to the skin, but it is not portruding.
