NO, colonoscopy is the "gold standard". I B.E. will show a lot of things and is an excellent screening test, but if anything is seen they can't do anything and you have to go back and have a colonoscopy anyway so they can remove and biopsy polyps etc. The B.E. is less expensive and you can drive yourself. Someone will have to take your for the cololoscopy because of the sedation. The bowel prep is the same for both, a day of fasting and powerful laxatives. If given the choice go directly to colonoscopy, in no worse in terms of comfort, it does have a slightly higher risk of complication but also is both a diagnostic and treatment modality.

No. The doctor needs to be able to look at your entire intestine to see if there are any polyps, tumors or unusual things. The intestine needs to be completely clean and barium enema does not go that far to clean your entire intestine out. Talk to your doctor about the liquid that you need to take. They used tto be terrible tasting but nowadays they give you something that tastes a lot better and has a lot less volume to get the job done.

An endoscopy only shows the precise component of the digestive device, the esophagus and the tummy. that's popular to diagnose ulcers. If he has blood in the stool they could be doing a colonoscopy. that's the main conclusive try for decrease intestinal issues.

a colonoscopy is just a picture of your colon, but an enema with barium will be absorbed and can give you a broader picture of your rectal cavity.
you really should discuss this with an MD, though. your oncologist or proctologist will have his/her own recommendations
