I won't kid you-he has a long road ahead of him. But, my Mum was diagnosed last year with bowel cancer (she'd been walking around with it for 3 years!),she has also got secondary cancer of the liver, also got it in the Uterus & bladder, but her main treatment is for the bowel. She's on a drug called Oxyplatin and one called 5-FU (they're chemo drugs) and that's what they usually give for bowel cancer, she's responding quite well at the mo and hasn't got a lot of side effects (she's even gaining weight after losing 3 or 4 stone). He'll probably have lots of scans first-MRI etc..and lots of bloodtests and then they'll start him on chemo with regular appointments for this (expect for it to take all day),he might end up having a colostomy which is a big thing at first but my Mum adjusted to it within weeks,he might also have to have a Hickman line (an I.V Line in his chest) which is odd at first but really makes things easier.Bowel cancer can be quite curable these days depending on how aggressive it is. Get in touch with PALS (a cancer advice service) and ask for any more info : pals@christie-tr.n.west.nhs.uk

It depends on what type of bowel cancer it is, how big it is, whether it has spread or not, whereabouts it is, and what treatment he will be having. Sorry, can't help without furthur info.
Hope its treatable.
