Just move in with my boyfriend to a VA town in the Shenandoa valley, since then I know at least of 20 relatives, friends or neighbors who have died of or diagnosed with differen types of cancer. Its the water or the air?

Yes, there is high possibilty because amongst rice eaters Myoma of uterus is very in 3 rd world countries cancer of blood is prevelant among those living under high tension cables, Ca of cervix is very much higher in those whose males don't udergo circumcision e.g it is rare in jewish and muslim community and so on and s forth.
Died of Ca of what? both are equally to blamed Air and Water. You since when you such questions, you have to pin point the exact name of tumour/cancer to reach a conclusive suggestion.

One word: Chernobyl.

There are plenty of others. There is this place in China that has the highest rate of espogheous cancer in the World that researchers have gone there to hope to find out why.

Certainly, look up "cancer clusters" on the Internet. You will find places that have significantly higher than average rates of cancer. Not surprising many are severely polluted.

As of a town in the Shenandoah Valley, perhaps the water is contaminated with pollution from a mine or factory. Radon also naturally occurs concentrated in places.

Bottom line, I don't anyone would know without knowledge of the area plus testing and research.

Yes think of Love Canal, New York. It could be either the water or the air. You can at least drink bottled water.
