I have got lymph nodes in my groin area that I have not felt before. I noticed them about 6 weeks ago so went along to the Drs to have them checked out. I was suffering with a bad cold/flu type illness at the time and the Doc put it down to a viral infec. I have had lots of other odd symptoms: cold water running sensation through my arms, pins and needles in my hands and feet, dizzy, nausea, feeling of pressure and throbbing under my arms and in my groin. I have had Complete Blood Count, thyroid, liver and kidney function test, inflammation test, diabetes, anemia blood tests and a urine test. Everthing was normal including physical exams of stomach, strength and reflexes. I had a very close friend who died last year after finding a lump under her arm which she soon found out was melanoma cancer that had got to the stage of spread ing to her lymph glands. If I had cancer and it had got to the stage of spreading to my lymph glands would one of the tests I have had show an abnormality?

I would have thought the complete blood count would have shown a raised white cell count and other abnormal values.

These too can be elevated with infection such as the flu virus so I would be optimistic as regard the normal results. All the symptoms you described can be put down to a viral infection, but your anxiety following your friend's cancer is perfectly understandable.

You definitely should see your doctor again even if only to allay your fears and get some reassurance as to the lymph nodes

Good luck!

Try this to help. It couldn't hurt. Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.

Go to your doctor and he/she will be able to send you for any relevant tests and have your mind put at rest.
Not sure if blood tests do pick up on cancer, my mum died last month of lung cancer and had a series of blood tests done in the weeks leading up to us finding out it was cancer, all the blood tests came back clear.
I am not a doctor so i can only presume that just because she was clear of everything else, the doctors obviously knew what they were looking for.
I really hope everything turns out ok for you, get yourself checked out and keep us posted.
My very best wishes.

I don't know. I can only tell you that, in my case, blood tests did not show anything. The only way they found out I had Lymphoma was through a biopsy of a swollen lymph node. Stay on top of your doctors until you get the answers you need. It may be nothing, there are many things that can cause lymph nodes to swell. But, you need to know for sure.
If you suspect Lymphoma, here is a great site for info:

Hi Hon, to answer your question, yes the blood tests would show changes that the docot will pick up and decide to investigate further (with CT or MRI scan) but it is unlikely (VERY!) to be the case, so do not worry undly until the tests come back

Definitely go back. If you have had it for 6 weeks, it is worth having him or her take a second look at it. And I don't think those blood tests will tell you what you want to know.

If you have a lump that has never been there before, you need to see the Dr, he can do a biopsy, that will tell if cancerous, then a blood test also. my grandmother had the same the same thing, happen to her.

Hey, if you are so concerned with it possibly being cancer, why dont you just do the obvious and call your doctor? He will be perfectly abled to explain to you what the possibilities are! Good luck!
