it is probably important to keep the time limit very close together. so she can get the best treatment possible , wasting too much time on letters and time to get to her is wasting alot of time to cure this disease

smear test - put blood on slide and count the cells

here is the info on it:

http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/blood_smear/test.html

not used much now - machines to do that.

The doc probably called to discuss the results - this might sound weird to someone that doesn't have cancer but to "us" it is no biggie (usually).

When you have cancer, you see docs a LOT - I mean; a LOT - 2,3,4 times a week at time and you see lots of different docs - after a while, you don't want to got to doc for every little test so get a quick call to discuss the results is ok.

Hope this helps, it is my experiance

Maybe because its more personal over the phone and then your friend can ask any questions that she needs to ask to help her with the hospital visit

sorry but thats the only reason i can think of

hope your friend gets better

That's pretty shady. I would have your friend see a doctor in person. It's possible somebody knew that your friend was concerned and is calling pretending to be the doctor. Have your friend go see a doctor for her results.

probably to make sure that the hospital knows they have heard - they might not get a letter and the hospital won't know.. probably send a letter too to confirm
