Lots of things! Anxiety, stress, alcohol and drug withdrawal, taking some prescribed medication, Parkinson's, epilepsy...the list could go on for much longer

Parkinsons disease (esp if older person, but not necessarily)..shakes most of the time..

Essential tremor...shakes when trying to move hand, but not other times....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essential_tremor

Panic attacks...anxiety..

post traumatic stress disorder (maybe)?

yes also hyperthyroidism as the person above said...

If he is 81 with liver cancer and diabetes, blood sugar levels could wildly fluctuate with the cancer problem and that could cause his hands to shake or weakness from both diseases together...at his age he very likely could have parkinson's disease (or essential tremor)...they say if you live to be old enough, anyone could get parkinson's...ask his doctor about it, but it would seem to be the least of his problems right now...

At the age of 81 the hands naturally shake however if it has come sudden as you said in two days then it means his brain is failing and he would start forgetting everything and the worst could happen hence rush him up to a doctor immediately who would give him medicines and he would become alright.

a familial tremor is the most common cause. This is a benign neurological condition that can be treated with various medicines.

Parkinson's disease or parkinson like symptoms also can cause tremors. Parkinson's is a serious neurological disease that can also be treated with medicine and sometimes surgery.
