I would like to learn how to sew so I need one that is good for beginners. Also, is there anyone out there who learned on their own? Meaning, they didnt take classes. What is your experience? I am very good at learning things on my own and would prefer not to spend the money on classes if I don't have to. I don't have time to go around to 50 different stores checking prices and asking salespeople about sewing machines, hence why I'm asking on here. So please don't recommend that I go to a store and ask. Thanks for your help!!!

I am having an elegant tropical themed wedding and I came up with the idea of making ordinary sea shells (I bought at a craft store) into personalized favors. I sprayed an adhesive on the shells and sprinkled pixie dust glitter on them and sealed them with a primer. I now want to put "Ashley & Gabriel August 18, 2007" on them so my guests can have a little momento to take with them. I am having trouble coming up with a way to get the writing on them. I was thinking about using a fine tipped felt pen, but then I was thinking about craft paint in fine tipped bottles. Does anyone have any suggestions for writing text on shells? Thanks!!!!

I have 2 Benchmade Balisongs that I wish to sell. One is a Benchmade Model 42 Balisong, featuring:
A Partially-Serrated WeeHawk Blade
and Skeletonized Handles with T-Latch.The other is a
a Model 44 Tanto Blade.I have the original nylon cases for both knives. They both need to be sharpened and cleaned a little.Knives weren't used much over about the 9 years I have had them. With regards to the Models I am not 100% sure that these the right model numbers as I used pictures online to guess which models they were.
My questions : 1)How much are the knives worth?2)How much should I sell them for?3)Where can I sell them legally?(I live in Massachusetts)4)What is the best way to sell knives like this?5)What models are they if i'm incorrect?
(You can't sell balisongs on Ebay).
I am selling the knives to buy something nice for my 5 yr old son so please give most helpful answers.Pictures can be seen on Myspace under BarryPatsFan or I can send them to you if needed. Thanks for your time

I know that people have made hovercrafts out of leafblowers, but I'm looking for some other ideas of a cool, yet simple project to make. Perhaps something like a ping pong ball machine gun, or some other awesome project. Anyone know of any?

My mother has arthritis and can no longer easily button her shirts (or pull up zippers). Although I don't sew, I thought I could replace the buttons with Velcro tabs.
So I'm looking for advice on how to do this. I'm wondering if the self-adhesive tabs last through many washings in the washing machine, or if they need to be sewed on. If they need to be sewed on, what is the best way (an X through the circle tab?). Finally is there any brand or "model" that's better for clothing. Thanks!

I'm so tired of my noble costume! xDD After the faire today (I swear I was going to melt), I decided it was time for a change. I don't want to do the whole belly dancer thing, its not for me. Nothing too simple. No fairy costumes.

What I like are the "peasant" costumes with the multiple skirts.

Do any of the shops at the Ren faire have online stores where I could order something new?

Does anyone have the quilt pattern for the Double Irish Chain pattern off of the Mountain Mist batting bag from about 15-20 years ago? I believe it was green and white with a scalloped edge, possibly octagonal edge? I really would like to have this pattern.

If I remember it correctly, it is not the traditional Double Irish Chain pattern. So please don't refer me to quilt in a day books, I already have them, thank you. I want a copy of the original.

Can anyone help?

I have this great piece of drift wood that I've had lying around for years, I've managed to carve the general shape of a blade, and even a nice thumb grip. I don't want to destroy the wood, so before I commit, is it possible to carve a fine and sharp blade from wood using only a pocket knife? How long did it take before you became good at the art? Can an amateur create a nice and functional piece?
