I'm writing a story about kids with superpowers but I can't get it as good as other stories I've written. How do I spice up my story?
Plot lines and tips (dos and don'ts) welcome

Get your hero in an impossible situation and let him or her get out of it by using brains rather than powers. (The powers can be the tool, but if the powers always get them out they are boring.)
For the unexpected effects, let them bluff their way out as if they had a different power, or as if they had their own abilities but do not use them.

And do not forget that little annoying thing that makes them human, like taking a teddy bear to a sleep over party when they are really to old to do so or always forgetting where they put the things they need next.

If you get stuck on this story, start an other, and get back to this one when you get going again.
Or think up a lot of story lines that do not need to fit in with this story, to get your fantasy going again.

First of all I will recommend you read "Literary Theory" by Eagleton. It's a bit heavy to get through it, but it will provide you with a good knowledge on how a good story is built. It is a good idea to read many many books. Find an author you like (identify with) and start out by "copying" their style. Once you have begun writing you will slowly develop your own style. --> But most importantly you must have a good plot and THEN start writing. Don't expect that a good story suddenly will revelate itself to you once you type "Once upon a time in..." 1) learn how to understand literature as a concept 2) Find a geographical place where you can be left alone and focus on your story (for me it is Iceland). I know a good author who borrowed a house in the middle of nowhere and didn't leave till she had completed 5 short stories 3) Learn how to master Narratology (storytelling) through serious books such as "When we get to the end.." by Hansen and Lundholdt. 4) I will recommend that you read through some of H.C. Andersen's original stories, since he was extremely good at building characters and plots that matched. Read and learn! Good luck, and remember most writers doesn't get their manuscript approved 1st, 2nd or 8th time. It is a long process if you want to be published!

Well, first every storie starts on one little idea, that grows into a big idea. try looking at a picture and see if anything ozes out of it. i could be a color. let try green. witch turens into green and blue, like the earth. and maybe the superhero took a space ship somewhere, got lost, and ended up on a new planted. just like the earth with people and everything. and the that world is endangered. and the superhero goes back to earth to tell everyone, but no one belives him. so he has to save the plant himself. see how i got all of that from the color green? if you have anymore questions, just find me. and if your book becomes published, add me to the credits! :o)

To be honest, if you can't think up a plot, you can't write a story. If you're not able to join a workshop or take a class, maybe you could read your favorite stories and figure out why you like them so much, and practice writing that way.

WRITE based on kids you use to know and how/what made them so appealing and great to the other kids and then enhance those traits with a superpower perspective.
