I have a friend whose family hails from Modena and she remembers her Grandmother and Great Grandmother making some sort of soup with Tortelacci in it. Sadly, the tradition was lost over the years and she is eager to find it or one like it. Tortelacci is hard to reference and she has bet me that I can't find a recipe. Help me out please! Thanks!

Teaching a lesson to 3rd graders and I want them to "sample" foods from different countries as an illustration of different cultures.
Can you give me some easy characteristic foods. For example, olives from Greece, Tortillas from Mexico, small Egg Rolls from China or Japan, etc. even countries like the Phillipines, Mongolia, Khazakstan would be helpful. Thanks

. . .Because I've never seen one. It all comes down to opinion, of course, but in my *opinion*, the quality of the food on Chinese buffets is generally worse than that at sit-down restaurants. It seems to me that Chinese-American food generally relies on quickly cooked stir-fry type meals, and having the food simmer there in hot plates defeats the purpose and ruins the flavor. The food gets all dried-out and icky, too. And plus, it seems like every Chinese buffet I go to has the EXACT.SAME.MENU as all the others; WHY?

I guess the reason I'm so cranky about this is that the last non-buffet Chinese restaurant in my town just went out of business, because people seem to be crazy about the buffets, since you can get "more bang for your buck," there--but honestly, I prefer quality over quantity. Perhaps I just haven't run into a good Chinese buffet yet; what about you?
