My friend is hosting a surprise birthday party for her 11 year old sister. The theme is Luau. We've decided on a Volcano Cake or a Pineapple Upside Down Cake, but need some appetizer and main dish recipes.

My brother is living in Taiwan and I wanted to send him a package... Are there any foods or items Americans use that aren't available there that I could include?

I'm tired of making the same ol' broccoli recipes, and would like to try something new and fun. Please no typical american recipes such as broccoli with cheese, spaghetti sauce, or broccoli stir-fry (unless you know a really good homemade sauce to go with it). Also, please no recipes that call for stuff like "a can of cream of something". I like to cook from scratch.

It came in packages like Top Ramen soup.. The dried stuff you had to put in a bowl and add hot water to.... It may be vietnamese..not sure. I don't think it was Korean..

I like Mrs. Renfro's habanero. It is EVIL, but after a few chips it isn't too bad anymore.

For example, I'm an American and I absolutely love sushi and sashimi. I've even begun making it at home.

But I could never consider eating insects as they do as snacks in some countries, or dogs or cats, which I consider as pets.

What's the strangest thing (to you) that you've tried? What would you never try? Why?
