I like Mrs. Renfro's habanero. It is EVIL, but after a few chips it isn't too bad anymore.

505 salsa is great. It's pretty much available in the southwest part of the country (505 being the telephone area code for New Mexico)

We sell the other three varieties of Mrs. Renfros at the grocery store that I work at but I think that the one we don't sell is the really hot one, must be the habenero. My favorite though has been mentioned by others and it is what I heard or read was the authentic salsa of Latin America, Costa Rica in particular, having only four or five ingredients, tomatoes, cilantro, onions, and lime juice and maybe hot peppers. I hope I have my facts straight. Salsa is good and the hot ones are probably good for the body. The pepper and garlic are (I think) the two main foods that doctors recommend for good health, in addition to other things.

I make my own.

Throw the following in the Cuisinart:
* about 3 cloves of garlic
* however many dried chiles de arbol or chiles japones
(or you can use fresh serrano peppers)
* 14-oz can of diced tomatoes, or use fresh tomatoes if they are in season
* bunch of cilantro
* sea salt

- Whiz this around for a few seconds and voila! Really good salsa.

* Or I will buy salsa if it's freshly made at the Mexican grocery store (in Austin TX I get salsa at La Michoacana)
* Or I will buy Frontera brand salsa (by chef Rick Bayless and really good)
* Or I will buy this really good kind called Xochitl that you can get in Texas
* Or occasionally something else.

Always homemade, then if I get really desperate, Pace, shhhhh don't tell please.
However there are quite a few products available on our grocer's shelves. You just have to be brave and experiment, with a large bag of Organic blue corn chips.

My homemade salsa is the best to me. Tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, lime is the base but I mix it up when I want something a bit different. (Black Beans, corn make good additions).

I like homemade salsa. Just chop 3 big tomatoes, add 1 chopped onion, the squeeze of one lime, chopped cilantro. Chill for 1 hour!
