When I call a company and ask them if their products contain any animal byproducts, and they say no (and they also say they don't test on animals), the product should be okay to use right?
Does that mean it doesn't contain animal PRODUCTS right? Do products and the byproducts mean the same?

My husband recently heard it on television and asked me that very same question. I have been pondering over it for ages! In all my eighty one years I've never heard of it. Does it originate in America, because it's not for sale in England?

I have been curious for some time about people who strictly follow Veganism do when they become ill? I know for minor events Health Food Stores and what not have medications that are vegan friendly, but what about major diseases such as diabetes, cancer, or even involved in an auto accident, ect?

Anyways, I am curious and please don't say that poeple who follow veganism never get major diseases because that cannot possibly be so. I realize their are potential health benefits, but no eating habit is a sure fire way of avoiding disease. Thanks!

My fiance' will be coming home from his deployment and I'd like to cook a nice dinner for him. Does anyone know of a great, easy recipe? Something you have personally tried and really enjoyed. I'm not really looking for a link just an answer based on personal experience. I live in a small town so if it calls for anything that I can't find at a Wal-Mart grocery store it could be difficult. He is a Marine and will eat anything! =) Thanks.

A Basque acquaintance recently served her mother's Piperade recipe, and I LOVED it. I've found what appears to be an authentic recipe on line, but it calls for 1/8 teaspoon of piment d'Espelette, which I understand is a pepper. Is this something found in one's local grocery store, or will I need to find a specialty shop/on-line? Does it come in a jar?
Is there something similar that I could substitute? Here's the recipe:

1/2 cup olive oil
1 small onion, finely sliced
6 anaheim chiles, seeded and finely sliced
6 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
6 ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon piment d'Espelette
1 bay leaf
salt and freshly ground white pepper

Heat olive oil in large saute pan over med-high heat. Add chiles, onion & garlic and cook 5 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, sugar, piment d'Espellete & bay leaf. Season with salt & pepper & bring to boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat & simmer 25-30 minutes. Remove & discard bay leaf.

My bf and I are thinking about becoming vegetarians, we have a 9 month old daughter and want her to be as healthy as possible because diabetes, heart disease, thyroid, and obesity run in my family. We just have no idea how to get started. I am not a chef by any means but my bf cooks sometimes, know any good recipes or sites with them?
Here is what we do know: vegetarians can eat vegis, fruits, nuts , beans, rice, noodles ,and some eat milk, eggs, and fish.
that seems kinda hard. how do you eat out?
Also is it more expensive? We spend around 300 a month on groceries and that is all we can afford. I would imagine having to keep your fridge stocked with fresh fruit and veg. gets expensive!

Does it make you angry when people go on the vegan diet for superficial reasons such as weight loss and not because of animal rights?

I'm thoroughly enjoying the first sunny day here in Mn in the last 7 days! Great day to have lunch on the deck. Today's lunch is ham w/onions, lettuce, and some wicked smoked cheese (gotta love farmer's markets!) on whole grain w/spicy mustard; lite pringles w/an awsome ranch dip somone here taught me, and apple and a diet coke.
